personally, I prefer teamviewer. It's free and easy to use and it works every time. You can even set it to start with your computer so you can have remote access to your home or office computer at any time.

Yes, there are a number of free apps that handle this situation pretty well, especially when the communicating computers are part of the same office network.

Right. There is always a free alternative to anything. Everyone chooses features and services according to his/her taste. But while picking up a software to pay for it's important to make a right choice and not to pay extra hundreds just for the well-promoted name. New providers are becoming reliable fast by the help of their flexible approach and affordable pricing.
