I cannot open my Microsoft Outlook anymore that came with my PC. I run Vista and I bought the PC through Dell. I keep getting a pop up window that says, " Cannot start Microsoft Outlook". Cannot open Microsoft Outlook window. I called Dell for help, but they wont do anything unless for a fee as it is a Microsoft Product. So I called Microsoft, but also won't help me unless for a fee as they tell me they do not cover OME software that came with the computer. I've tried to repair the problem with the Microsoft Office CD that came with the computer but it didn't fix my problem. Can anyone help me please. I would be very gratefully.

Thank you.

You properly have the Trial Version ......that has expired ....?

If you have the true paid version cd .....you can uninstall the trial V completely and install a new fresh one from cd ...make sure you have all "Activation key" ...

Should be on the cd itself ...

What does your Dell receipt or the Outlook install disk packaging (you should have gotten an actual Microsoft Office install disk) say? Does either one call it an OEM install? If so, then call Dell back and tell them that they should be supporting it...it part of the "agreement" in OEM software.

Go read the License terms (go to the About Microsoft Office item under the Help menu...in the resulting Window, there should be a link to open the EULA...if not, then you can try this: http://www.microsoft...isplaylang=en). Here is the relevant section from my Office 2003 OEM license (I would assume that it would be the same or similar for 2007):

"SOFTWARE SUPPORT. Software support for the Software is not provided by MS, Microsoft Corporation, or their affiliates or subsidiaries. For Software support, please refer to the Manufacturer's support number provided in the documentation of the Computer. Should you have any questions concerning this EULA, or if you desire to contact the Manufacturer for any reason, please refer to the address provided in the documentation for the Computer."

Thus, when Dell sells you a computer with a Windows OEM install (which to my knowledge, every manufactured computer does...Dell, HP, etc) and an Office OEM install, it is DELL that is obligated to support it. If they sold you a Retail license of Office, then it is Microsoft that is obligated to support it.

In my case, it does not matter as since I build the computer, I am the "system builder"/"manufacturer", which means that I must support my Windows and Office install.

If Dell still balks at it, you could try onyourside@pcworld.com...or contacting your state's AG (and it might help to mention that to the the Dell rep after reading him/her the appropriate section in the Microsoft Office OEM EULA, assuming you do have an OEM version installed).
