If you want a good FREE file converter that will handle the .AAC format, try Switch Sound; here's the address of the Australian download site. http://www.nch.com.au/switch/.
I've used this one for quite a while, and find it easy and instinctive to use. It may not be the quickest tool around, but the results are superb. Best of all, it has error checking so you won't waste your time with a bad rip.
