To start, I kind of danced around this one for a while. Although I have enjoyed previous titles from Bethesda ( Morrowind & Oblivion), I was unsure of this one. I eventually bought it and played it some, but was kind of luke warm to it at first. That didn't last long as this thing is as addictive as any game I have played. It is on the same open ended format as the Elderscrolls stuff, meaning you are free to roam where you may and there are plenty of side quests to keep you busy. It is set in a post Apocalyptic Washington D.C. area. You do have to watch you radiation count as it will deplete your strength if it gets too high.
You Start out in Vault 101 as a child, and just like in the other games, you can create your own character and stuff. Eventualy, you will leave the vault and enter a very drab world, to say the least. There is nothing on your map, and you will have to explore and "Discover" places, such as Megaton ( which has thus far been my base from where I work). You wil at times get new entries on your map, but can not fast travel to them until you have actually "Discovered" them by visiting the place. Some can be frustrating trying to actually get to them, as the destruction doesn't allow for a direct access. In a lot of cases, you must travel underground using the Metro system ( or what is left of it). I think anyone who likes a good open ended non linear RPG, will love this game. As I said, I have become addicted to it. I am playing the PS3 version, but the PC version would be good as well and you could enter the console and cheat ( not much fun that way though). I did experience some glitches though that made me wish I had gotten the PC version as they have some patches out to deal with the problems.
