if i may add my 2 cents:
why three keys to perform this function?
use KeyTweak
http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/
and reassign F12, or better, the half-moon [put xp in standby] key to do perform this function.
just when was the last time you actually used F12 to do anything? or put the system into standby?

Oh, great! Yet ANOTHER hard-to-remember key combo! (aka, "shortcut.") I simply set my monitor's shut-off time via the "Power Options" function (which I usually have set to "Energy Star.") MUCH easier! I also use my monitor's power button. I guess these methods work best only for us home-computer users, though. I guess at the office, it may be a different matter.

Instead of hitting a hotkey, I just simply hit the power button on the monitor... works like a charm

I chortled with glee at the thought of Rick Broida and others reading FireArcher1957's response. Sometimes people become too involved in their computers to think clearly.

Actually, the article already addressed this:
"Yeah, I know, it's called the Power button. But that doesn't help laptop users. And some monitors take awhile to restart after being powered off."

Power button? How about for those who have all-in-one PCs that are part of the monitor itself? Or laptop users?
