Word-Access 2003

In implementing mail merge from Word 2003 and in opening a data source and manuevering to the correct database in Acess 2003, the list of sources includes most queries but not all. Naturally, the one I want is one of those left out of the list. I have had to resort to making a table from the query and then the table is on the list and can be selected. This is clumsy. I'm wondering if anyone knows why not all (select) queries are listed.
