Installed a sata drive(K8NS Pro mother boardwwith sata connections) using Seagate disk wizard, on win XP Pro SP2.( seagat sata drive) Checking with online instructions prior to performingthe function. The drive installed properly and the disk wizard was supposed to copy the data from my old drive to the sata drive and make it the boot drive. Needless to say when I booted it up. I got into window desktop but no icons came up. Checking with tech support I was informed that I should nothave used disk wizard for windows. ( web site had the process writtem out) I booted to my new drive and installed a ghost backup. Everything was okay. But the sata drive was not listed as the boot drive ( G drive) I searched the microsft knowlege base to see if there is a way to make the C drive ( old disk) a normal drive and sata drive G the boot drive. I found a diocument that walked me through the process. Basically it had me go into the registry change the C drive to a higher letter and then change the G drive to the C drive. Then the C to the D. Rebooted the computer. Now everywhere you look in windows it shows a C drive that is the size of my sata drive and is the boot drive, and a D drive( old drive) But my programs like Norton system works and some of my back up programs also still show a G drive ( same size as my sata drive) If I try to install a program from a cd it says that it is installing to the G drive So I now have a ghost drive. So short of copying everything to my D drive and reinstalling the new install to the G or C drive . Is there any other options to use. I mentioned earlier that I had a ghost backup, but because I changed drive's trying to get the computer working I exceeded the number of times that I could activate Norton System Works. The exciting thing about that is three mionths ago the same thing happed. So now I had to send the program disk back to them for inspecption and a new one returned.Hopefully that is. Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered.:x

Go to computer management under administrative tools. Right click your c drive, select change drive letters. Remove the extra drive letter. If this cannot remove the extra drive letter, try this method.Boot from the Windows XP cd. Go to the windows recovery console. Type the command "fdisk /fixmbr". The computer should stop reflecting the ghost drve.
