Hi and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D

Please provide more information. This is really not enough information to begin troubleshooting your issue. The basic question would be did you install the software for the camera? Any details you can provide would be helpful.

I have had my camera for a few years and never had any trouble til now. I have removed and reinstalled the software at least 2 times. At first I received a error message that told me I had conflict with another anti-virus program. took both of them out and no change with camera. I'm not a techie but not a beginner either. I can follow most directions on packages. Nothing I've tried has helped. I called Sony help and they came on my computer to help but could not find any problems with the camera. So if anyone could help this senior citizen and help me back to snapping pictures I would be most grateful. I have a HP computer a820n running XP home.I hope this helps. thanks for taking the time to help.

Hi Poop ... For the time being ..just take the mem-card out and transfer to pc ..." drag-drop " ....NOT so ...techy ..either .......

Now ....Just back up your pc by doing a system restore back to the point that you think "It was working for you" ...and keep it there ....

If you need more help ....Like MPH said .....We can not help you with that little or NO info at all ...

Atleast ...post what kind of program " or Version" do you use to for transfering from your camera ...? As much as you can ...including model of the cam....

( BTW....Don't get Offended when people ask for more info .....We just want to help ......)

Hi Tek. I thought about that as well. Very good suggestion. According to HP, this computer does come with a memory card reader so it should work like any external hard drive or flash drive.

As Tek suggested, you can simply take the memory card out of the camera and insert it in your computer's memory card reader. Take a look at this image:

This is your computer, correct? On the left side of the front panel, you should see a series of small horizontal slots (similar to floppy drives). The memory card from your camera should fit easily within one of those slot. Please refer to this quick reference guide from HP for more information:

Setup Poster Page 2

Once you have inserted the media card, the computer will recognize that card just like a drive. You can then open Windows Explorer to drag and drop the images from the media card to the hard drive.

As to the camera issue itself. From where exactly did you obtain the drivers and software for the camera? If you are using the same CD that came with your camera, I would recommend downloading the latest version of the software and drivers from Sony.

This assumes that there is a memory card to remove. Older camcorders that could take still images usually just had integrated memory. I do not know about current models.

What is the model of the Sony HandyCam?

Handycam DCR-DVD 301 It records to dvd disc and I use ImageMixer software that came with the handycamVer.1.5 with update 15.8exeput out by Pixela corp uses spvd-011 usb driver 3-086-131-03 I hope this makes a difference, Sony tech told me there were no issues with this handycam. That's why I thought it might be something with the computer its self. I tried to back up to restore point but it did not help. Not offended when asked for more info.

Have you tried just putting the DVD disk into the computer (assuming your computer has a DVD drive) and trying to get the pictures off that way?

OK ..Poop ... I have Sony camcorder "HDD model" ....during 2 years ...I had to Uninstall & install Loading program twice .....Dunno why ...."Just stopped working.."

To make sure ..there is not any conflict software interferes with your ImageMixer ...

Do it one more time ...Uninstall all ....."All" ....video or picture editor programs by using REVO unstaller :

www.revouninstaller.com/revo[uuninstaller[/u]free_download.html]

( Only delete files that in BOLD letters)

Then install original Sony software from the disc .." NO update yet " ....And it has to be in "star-up" menu ..You can see it in system tray .....

Before you plug-in the cam USB connector to your pc ....

See if it works ......?

(BTW ....How much mem. you have left ......?) This needs quite large storage to handle video ...

I checked up on my memory and here's what I found(with help of my daughter)physical -252megs freepage files-- 700 of 1228megs---free virtual--2010 of 2047 megs. Now if that doesn't make me sound techy I don't what would. I'll try your suggestions and get back to you. thanks for your help.I hope it fixes my problem.

The computer only has a 256MB memory chip installed but is configured to perform as if it has 2GBs of memory. This could be a major factor why the computer shuts down. Once you try Tek's suggestion, we may want to investigate this avenue.

Sony has a nasty habit of not supporting software for their products after 4 years. Classy. So if your HandyCam is more than 4 years old, they may not have the driver or software for your current OS.

For example, I have a Sony DCR-TRV350. It's probably 7 years old but in great shape. However, I cannot download videos from tape to my Windows 7 PC since Sony won't provide drivers or ImageMixer software for the Windows 7 platform. I CAN download pictures and digital videos from stick via USB - but Sony does not support streaming for downloading tape videos in Windows 7. Nor do they support FireWire to USB connections.

I'll never buy Sony again - unless I expect to only use the product for 4 years!
