Brilliant! (not really) Although recognition technology is impressive and even more so that is is shrinking in size and becoming (relatively) affordable, using it to figure out what pictures you want to snap is moronic.
People have been looking through viewfinders - and now at display screens - since the invention of the camera and have been doing just fine.
Now, if Sony could come up with something that could foresee some guy at the party falling face first into the guacamole and snapping a photo - THAT I would buy.

I really don't think this is a stupid product. I often forget to take pictures at parties, this would allow me to focus on my guests and having fun. A little bit easier than gesture recognition and probably more useful is the ability to recognize the direction people are facing. I wouldn't want to get a whole lot of shots of people's backs.

See I disagree with this article completely, I am a father and I want to be in family photos and Sony Party Shot makes life a lot easier instead of just the mother being in the shot, I can also be in that shot playing as a family.

Also if you do not want to buy one then that is up to you but people may have use's that helps them not just because of any illness but because they want to be in that photo when they look back in years to come
