You could network the two together and copy the files that way, or take the HD out of the compaq and set it to salve (if i's ide) and put it in your Dell. Or if you wanted, copy the files to a CD-RW and keep using the same cd to save money.

You could use an external hard drive or a jump drive. You can get a external case and put your old drive into it. But this is a good way to back-up your information onto CDs.

How many gigs do you need to copy? That's the real important question. For one thing, programs will not copy from one computer to another, so you are left with data. If you have a lot of music and/or videos, then you are better off copying the data from your old hard drive to the new one. You will need to open the case on the new pc, making sure the hard drive in the new computer is set as master, and your old drive as slave, or with some computers, you can set both hard drives as cable select, just make sure the new hard drive is at the end of the cable.Davehttp://www.davescomputerserv.com

There's also a program...called Ricochet maybe...Boomerang...that will ease the pain of it all.
