I just replaced almost all the parts in my comp except the HDD and the CD ROM Drive and when i start it up (With no errors) it takes me to the screen that tells me how i want to start it up, in safe mode,Safe Mode with Networking,Safe mode with Command Prompt, or Normaly. Ive tried everyone and every time it just reboots and does the same thing again bringing me back to the same screen, and for some reason if i tell it to start up without rebooting after finding an error it brings me to the Blue error screen with the code x0000007B. I have no idea what is wrong and i was wondering if anyone could help me.Motherboard: ASUS P5B Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel MotherboardCPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6300Graphics Card: XFX PVT42EUDE3 Geforce 6800 XTreme 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16

Unfortunately you made a major boo boo. You have a totally different motherboard now, don't you? This is why you are getting the errors. You do have your Windows disc don't you? If you don't, you're toast. You will have to go buy yourself a legitamate copy and use it. You will want to set your bios to boot from the CD first (assuming you do have your windows disc). Watch the messages carefully because you want to get to the repair option that you have on the CD. You, my friend, are learning, the hard way, that you simply can't stick a hard drive with Windows installed into what is essentially, a different machine. I may be wrong, though, but based on you saying you only kept your cd drive and hard drive, this is why I assumed you got a new motherboard.

If you have your windows disk , you will likely have to reload windows anyway, more than 3 hardware changes and you have to activate again anyway, might just as well reload and get a nice clean , new install .

The OP may, however, have data that he doesn't want to lose, and doing the repair option, or for that matter, going in safe mode, would let him copy his stuff. I do agree that it would be nice to have a clean install. Everyone makes newby mistakes. I did my share when I was new. Hard to remember exactly how to fix problems like that, though. And I think about how many security downloads and such you have to make when you do a clean install. It's scary... I tell you.

I agree, but recovery may not be possible, If safe mode does not allow you access to some hardware, and sometimes this is the case, but trying is a good thing and maybe you'll have some luck. You could also get another drive and reformat it and install your current drive as a slave, then when you get all your files transfered, switch the drives and then format your current drive.

I wanted to switch drives but came across the not booting up problem so I made it the slave drive. I can access the drive and certain folders which is now d: drive ut I cannot access the files that were once on the desktop under the users folder. Can anyone tell me how I can access these folders that were once on my old desktop which is now my D: drive? The folder properties is set to read only and no matter how many times i remove it, it wont go away, I also changed the folder sharing permissions and didnt work Error Not Accessible Access Denied.D:Documents and SettingsJasonDesktop
