I recently redid my system after major performance problems. I Installed XP SP2 again and added Windows Media player 11, Internet explorer 7 and System Mechanic 6. the system is a Dell 8300 2.8ghz with 1GB ram. Now my HP 2410 all-in one printer will not install correctly. Windows keeps interefering with new hardware found. I did a level 4 uninstall with HP's uninstall utility to no avail. The software seems to install properly but nothing works for example the HP Director or the HP Imaging monitor does not open. I am also having problems with my Ipod shuffle. In iTunes a new drive window keeps opening, showing drive (H). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When it comes to HP printers, problems abound.I'm not sure if this applies to your situation, but apparently my printer installation CD needed for the CPU to never have detected the cable for the printer, and it failed to install due to the cable already being in it. To top it off, they told us "if it doesn't install correctly, the CD gets [screwed up], we'll send you a new one," thus, I was without a printer for a few days (retarded). Are you sure you unloaded all the drivers and registry keys?As for the HP director and imaging monitor, they take ~forever to start.

Thanks for the input! I've been back and forth with HP all day and things still aren't right. The software installs and ask's for the printer to be plugged in via the USB everything is good but it never gets the "ok" after stage 8 it just stops. The frustrating thing is that it worked fine with SP2 up until the reformat. But I will request a new cd the next time I e-mail them. Thanks

No problemo, just make sure you don't plug it into the CPU until it asks you to. =)if you still have problems, feel free to post about it, or PM me if you want to.

In my case I have a HP Officejet 6110xi All-in-One, S/N MY3C2H74X1 and regrettably, the Officejet 6110 loses its functionality with regard to scanning (the "HP Photo & Imaging Director" application becomes unresponsive). The HP team acknowledged this and suggested I roll back to IE-6. I did and it worked again. Nonetheless, I enjoy the performance of IE-7 and re-installed it. I have difficulty accepting that a company such as Hewlett-Packard, would not provide a resolution to this issue, especially since H-P must have many thousands of customers who are all facing Windows Vista and IE-7 just around the corner. I also ran the Microsoft Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor on one of my computers and it indicated to me that I needed to Contact the manufacturer (of the Officejet 6110) to obtain new device driver to be compatible with Windows Vista, etc. Does anyone have additional information on this and what HP may (or may not) do to resolve this important issue?

When Microsoft releases it's original version, HP All-in-One software will function correctly on it. However, I recommend you to uninstall Internet Explorer 7.0 and install Internet Explorer 6.0.

How in the world does a major company like HP get in a position to have the billions of dollars of hardware it has sold to customers rendered useless because of system software from Microsoft? Ya'd think they'd talk to each a little, huh????!!!!I can't trade IE7 for IE6. Several e-commerce sites (banks, vendors, etc.) I must use now require it.I have tried literally everything to get my HP Scanjet 4670 to work (it uses HP Director, too) and it won't. Windows sees the device and reports it working properly. but, no combination of fixes remedies the situation, including downloading a 297MB driver replacement from HP support.Furthermore, HP now advises its customers to do something with their software BEFORE upgrading to SP2!! Thanks for the advance warning, HP.It doesn't bother me that Bill Gates is one of the world's 5 richest people. It REALLY bothers me when I realize how he made his billions.

Today I spent almost the entire day with HP techs (free & paid) trying to work on the problem. I did uninstall IE7, reveted to v.6, uninstalled scanjet software, cleaned out the reg keys and sys files that lingered after the uninstall. HP Director launches and even though the scanner is recognized by the PC, it doesn't scan. So, I did what any smart computer user should do. I unplugged the scanner, moved it to the left side of my desk where my Apple G5 sits and plugged it in. I worked perfectly. So, I scan the file on my Mac, e-mail it to the PC so I can e-fax the doc.No kidding, I spend an average of 1.5 to 2 hours per WEEK on Microsoft/PC problems where my system is down or in some state of needing to be fixed. (I'm up to 11 hours this week alone). So, Bill Gates has me working for him about 2.6 weeks a year. Multiply that by the number of people he sold these "PC's" (pieces of crap) to and you can easily see how someone can get so rich off of so much uncompensated labor!Gee, thanks Bill! (Hope the foundation's doin' well. Hi to Melinda!)

Copied from the thread I referenced above. Credit goes to "Tzjiang"[quote:f8a2f2faa5]1.Run the HP Director (don't click anything yet so your HP Director's windows is still focus).2.Press "alt+space" then choose minimize. You might need to click twice until it minimize.3. Once it minimize to the bar, right click on it then click restore. The HP Director will run in a big window. It will run normally but you always have to do those step to run the Director. If you think it's too much hassle, uinstall the ie7.[/quote:f8a2f2faa5]There is a script there too you can try.Ron

You start HP Director the way you usualy do. It will be running but it is hidden. Follow the directions in my other post. If you follow the link in my first post & read that thread there are some other suggestions.Ron

 Okay,I am bent... Just Friday, my HP Director was working fine, but now when I right click on the icon on my desktop it does NOTHING! No error, no nothing! I have tried right clicking and selecting open... nothing! I have found the .exe file (hpqdir.exe) and double clicked.. nothing! I can't get it to do anything... although I did notice that under Task Manager the .exe is listed, but says it is using no CPU. Can anyone help me???? Please!!!!!!! (Oh yeah, I am running XP pro, and just installed IE7 today, althoough I started having this problem today before I installed IE7! And I have an HP PSC 2410xi photosmart all-in-one, but I have been using the updated driver and software from HP) Thanks~ MandySioux

MandySioux If you read the above posts you will see there is an issue with IE7 and the HP Director. The mentioned work around does work very well. I called HP today to see if there was an update yet on the software but they couldn't give me any info other to say "they are working on it" If you had the problem before upgrading to IE7 I suggest uninstalling IE7 through the Add / Remove program, it will be listed towards the bottom as "Windows Internet Explorer 7". Once you resolve the initial problem with the director then go ahead and try IE7.Good luck

I have HP PSC 2410 and yesterday I had to reinstall the software since I had to reformat. I too have IE7 installed (final) and it might explain why I had so many problems installing it. eventually I did install it ok and downloaded all the updates through the programs' updater. HP Image Zone opens up just fine but not HP Director. I can see it in the processes but no actual window is opened. by looking around the net I could find many with the same problem.I came across this thread: http://msmvps.com/bl.../22/197647.aspx and this post helped me:[quote:39d5ef6a3d]guys i do understand its a bit hard to follow but i will appreciate the solution for u guys .... just copy the script sol1for people who have digital imaging folder at locationc:/program files /hewlett-packard/digital imagingcopy this scriptvar WshShell = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Shell");var dirfile="C:Program FilesHewlett-PackardDigital ImagingbinHpqdirec.exe";var oExec = WshShell.Exec(dirfile);WScript.Sleep(3000);WshShell.SendKeys("%( )"); //equivalent of AltspacebarWshShell.SendKeys("nn"); //equivalent of click minimize twiceoExec = WshShell.Exec(dirfile);sol 2for people who have digital imaging folder at locationc:/program files /hp/digital imagingcopy this scriptvar WshShell = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Shell");var dirfile="C:Program FilesHpDigital ImagingbinHpqdirec.exe";var oExec = WshShell.Exec(dirfile);WScript.Sleep(3000);WshShell.SendKeys("%( )"); //equivalent of AltspacebarWshShell.SendKeys("nn"); //equivalent of click minimize twiceoExec = WshShell.Exec(dirfile); paste it on notepadsave it as file name : hpdirector.jsand file type as : all files... save it on ur desktop....now when u click it it will open hp director for uplzzz reply if sol works for ukindly check the location of digital imaging for ur solution[/quote:39d5ef6a3d]Since 'Digital Imaging' was installed in c:/program files /hp/digital imaging (for me), I choose sol 2 (Solution 2). I simply copied it to notepad and then went to file -> save as -> and named it hpdirector.js - in the file type drop down I changed to "all files" and saved it on my desktop. then I simply double click it and the director actually opens up!! a little bit larger than usual but it works. This is just a temp. solution until HP will finally release a normal patch. I hope it works for you as well, just make sure to choose the solution that is right for you according to the program's path on your PC.

Just confirming the script works well. (i have a scanjet 5530) Make sure you delete line return spaces if you are copying and pasting.Thank you, and I wish I had done this before the download from HP, uninstall, reinstall that had absolutely no effect.
