Okay, for all of those that do not know, I am getting married in September. My time has been spread over the many things that goes into a wedding. Over the last few weeks, things have become very hectic for me and now I would like to step back a bit and have a little fun.
So, this Discussion is to talk about whatever you want. The only guidelines to remember are that there should be no technical questions in here and the topics still has to abide by the {document:id=1000}. Don't worry about hijacking the Discussion or anything like that. If you have a particular subject you want to discuss, share it. People can respond to whatever post they want or just start their own subject. Other than that, have fun with it.
Okay, the misses and I had a very good weekend. One of the highlights of the day was a drive-in movie we went to watch The Dark Knight. The movie was, as everyone said, very good but that was not the best part of the night. The best part of the night was the experience we had actually going to a drive in movie.
I really cannot remember if I have ever been to a drive-in but I had some ideas...all of which were shattered. First, the drive-in was about a hour and fifteen minutes away from my home. When we got to the drive-in, there were two huge screens where the four movies would be shown. There were signs posted to tune your radio to a certain station in order to hear the movie. (idea one shattered) I remember seeing the old movies about drive-ins where a speaker was placed in the car.
The ticket price was $7 for both movies. We saw The Dark Knight and Journey to the Center of the Earth. We found a good spot not too far away from the screen and just started to relax. We had about an hour before the first movie started. We got hungry so we went to the concession center. The food was pretty good. We had pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, soda, and popcorn....all for $13 dollars. We took it back to the car and devoured the food. (Idea two shattered) I thought the food would be placed on the window of the car or the car door frame.
People were playing catch and just enjoying themselves. When the movie started, it was just like any other theater. There were about 10 minutes of trailers and then the movie started. By this time, I was fully reclined in the seat of the car and was having a good old time.
We absolutely enjoyed ourselves and I would definitely recommend everyone to go to an old fashion drive-in at least once.

I have fond memories of seeing Star Wars when I was a kid in the 70s at a drive theather. We had a pickup truck with a cap on the back. Just behind the window to the back, we had a "bench" built. My cousin and I were laying in sleeping bags on the bench watching Star Wars through the rear window with my parents in the pickup cab. BTW, that WAS back when you put a little mono speaker on the door window to hear the sound. That drive in (and all the drive ins near me) is long since gone...where it sat is now a huge multiplex theature.

We are definitely going back at least once a month (the movies change monthly). The movies for August include the latest Star Wars animation movie and the latest Mummy movie.

First , I have three subjects I have to talk about.
I am always teasing you about married life. I am obviuosly just joking around.
If you have a marriage like I have then, you will be happy for the rest of your life.
Second , I have to thank every one who posted on my behalf on the Coke thread.
I did not expect such responces. I am honored to be part of this Community. Thank You ALL.
Third, I cannot , for the life of me, picture smax as a Teenager. Smax , I would of loved to have known you
back in the '70s.
Now, the Drive-ins. Here in Ottawa , we had one on Montreal rd. One in Brittania Park. One at the airport.
And another on Albion rd. All within 20 minutes of where we lived. Being served at the window of your car,
that was at the A & W where all of the street racing cars would gather.
I can remember, on long weekends we had all nighters. The main movie was at dusk and the last one at dawn.
I totally enjoyed the greasy food and the crowds and the line ups oh! and yes, those weekends were also
like kellie mentioned, by the car loads. I guess being a Global Community now, we do not have as many
liberties as in the '70s when Globilization was still in it's infancy.
But we have grown. I still miss those days some times.
So, MPH , Congratulations on your up-coming Wedding. If everything doesn't go as planned on your
Wedding Day, then you will know that there are still more Humans then Robots preparing the Wedding.

Teenager for me would have been the 80s. I 'twas a real munchkin in the 70s. While I make [~44270] look young, I don't make him look THAT young. :)

...but, I should note that I was almost as geeking back then as I am now...just did not have to cool tech toys to play with. Had to live with programming in BASIC on a Radio Shack TSR-80 with tape drives instead of floppy drives and little strip thermal printers (like cash register printers) instead of regular size paper. So many more cool toys to play with now! ;) One of the best is not having to go ANYWHERE, to any theater to watch a movie...rather, I just go down to the family room, fire up the projector and AppleTV and Dolby 5.1 surrond system, plunk my tushie down in my nice soft, comfortable couch, and watch a movie on the "big screen" in the comfort of my own home...and if I need to use the little boys' room, I just hit pause...light years better than sitting through the last half of Return of the King in the theater with my legs crossed so I would not miss a thing (I still vividly remember everyone cheering/clapping at the big "coronation" scene with them ALL thinking "that is the end" and knowing that they was more since I had read the books...thinking "everyone shut and hurry up...I need to go"). Speaking of, time to go watch Jumpers on the big screen. Don't know if it will be any good or not, but hey, I will be comfortable AND my feet will not stick to the floor!

And you talk about me staying up all Night!
I haven't been here too much last week because (this is a good one),my Mother
at age 78 asked me to buy her a Notebook. She said "All I hear about is Computers.
I don't want to pass away with ought having owned one and experimenting with one"
Where do I start? What to buy someone who has never understood anything electronic.
I even had to show her how to input the channels on the remote for the home TV.
So, off I went to find this mythical notebook. It had to be easy enough to understand
when I explained the use of it. The "why" we use a computer in the first place, And it had to be long lasting.
Meaning that it has to be good for at least three years and more.I did finally find something
decent that will probably last her for quite some time. If you would like to take a look at
what I decided on you can click here .
This way we will respect the wishes of MPH. I brought her to the store with me to see what she thought
of it and to have her test the notebook a little and see if she would be comfortable with it.
We finally bought the notebook and brought it home along with a printer and a mouse and pad.
Now, they don't internet yet, that's another thing I had to take care of last week. (see why I wasn't here).
I told Mom, that it was late and that we should look at the notebook the next day. Well, the look on her face reminded me
of my Daughters when you told them that they could only have the use of something the next day.
So, I went back on Sunday and opened the box with her. (just like a kid at Christmas). I now had to configure as much as I could
with ought the use of the internet because the cable company will be there on Thursday. Well, all along Mom was complaining that I
was going too fast. I tried to tell her that this part I had to do on my own. Once everything was up and running I closed the
notebook and then asked her to open it. Mom must've hit every key on the keyboard to try and find the "ON" button.
I was there , just looking at her not saying a word when she finally turned to me and said "Well , are you going to show me
or just sit there" . I burst out laughing and so did Mom. The next step was to set-up the mouse. Mom is left handed. This
part was not easy. I am right handed. So, I configured the mouse to be used by a left handed person. Mom has never used
a mouse before. There I was trying to tell her to use this button and that button and making mistakes because
I telling her to use the wrong buttons. Anyways , this is where we are. I will return on Thursday to supervise the
installation of the internet but mostly for the router.
I will let you know how the saga unfolds. This is going to be one heck of an experience!

That looks to be a nice light notebook. You may have also seen something like this. The Eee PC is just 1.4 kgs , intel atom based processor . these are very small screen size , the largest is only 10' but they are nice looking, meant for light work. Anyways , that one looks good with vista home premium. :)
Left hand , right hand can cause confusion. Normal mouse can be easily changed from the OS settings. The problem comes with most gaming grade mouses. I have an MX518 . It cant be used by left handed people as the extra buttons that are meant for the thumb are on the left side. One of my friends is left handed and he is not able to play with mine. Forget about playing , he cant even use it properly as the shape is designed to fit it the right hand comfortably.
I think you will be a lot busy on Thursday with configuring internet that day. And you will be decrapifying this one also of bloatware and putting some good things in there. Oh , i know you are a master at this. ;-)

The thing is, we have had so much planning and preparation for literally about 30-45 minutes. The reception will be longer than the actual ceremony. I honestly will be relieved when it is all over and we can relax on our honeymoon. :D

Hi Flashorn. Thank you for that. I know marriage will not be "easy" but my fiance and I really love each other and no matter what, we have always been by each other's side.
