O ma that is so sad you dont have the racing motor they put in them for part of 01-part of 03 thats what sold me on my rav. in my first 2,000 mile i had to do an oil pan, trany pan new bug shield, and some thing else al due to crap i ran over on the hiway. if you dont have a bug shield I can tell you they when the lader that hit the front of my rav after falling off a truck on the hiway it bounced up hit the bug shield and went under the rav instead of throught the winshield and thats why i need a new trany pan. but I have ran it hard fire calls and all. only got stuck once in the snow and that was because i still had my sumer tires and rims on. that reminds me i got to switch over to my snows soon.

I once snapted a drive shaft in ar old 76 mash type dodge rescue truck there was an nast ice storm we had just serviced the over built 318 in the truck. We had a call up this ice covered road i was doing about 30 when i hit a patch of ice all the tirs started sping at one just as i pulled my foot off the rear tires hit a none ice spot so i hit the gas hopping it would grab and get me up the hill I was on. the tires grabed but the rear axel let go thank fully the front found some road and we just keep going on the way back I stopped to pick up the part of the shaft that was in the road thinking about it a drie line loop is always good in a truck.

This morning I got up really early because I was planning to leave by 7:15 am to get the blood work done. Sometime during the night I remembered that my BFF and I had talked about her helping me to put 50/50 (water/coolant) in my radiator and we forgot all about it! :(

I ended up waking her up around 7 and she helped me put the 50/50 in there (I wouldn't have been able to open the hood of my car by myself.) I put some oil in it, and I was good to go.

There was a lot of fog and traffic slowdowns because of it, but I was able to make it to the Clinic at 8:03 am. < big sigh >

So when I came back, I treated her to a Grande Mocha at Starbucks. She deserved it for being such a trooper.

Bust a rear U joint in a '66 Chevelle 396 SS, hot shotting for some girls. had down shifted to First gear and pulled along side and snatched second, when i did i heard a bang and a clanging. When I looked back in the mirror, I saw the sparks flying before it pulled loose from the front and went flying. Wasn't too much too fix and i was able to coast into a parking lot.

When I read that, my first thought was you trying to open the hood with that shoulder of yours. Proboaly not a good thing, and a good thing that she was there to help.

I had it almost 2 years up there in (Springfield) VA before I moved down here.... I made a trip to Pennsylvania to test out when I first got it out from dealer.

Had so much fun sliding through snow......Stable control system works great.

BTW....We once awhile have icy road down here....You know.......(I heard).....LOL

:D Was a bit embarassing as I recall. Fortunately I chased down the drive shaft and put it under the car so any passing cops wouldn't see it. Sure didn't want to explain that.

Hi RT

Looks like you and Coastie have the same problem as I do... we're good hearted people with small veins.... LOL

I feel bad for you that you had to go through so much and you still have black and blue marks, my friend. And well, at least they were able to put some liquid into you, no matter what size, right?

:x

Yeah, they tend to get a little more snow then we do here in Richmond. Springfield tends to get more hot air from DC though as they are closer than we are. :D

I was looking at my friends 08 rav4 and thinking if I had the extra money that or an 06 would be a good buy there just a little bigger then my 02 but that extra room is very nice. with ny 02 raqve 4 all 4 tires spint the same all the time with how they set up the transfer case witch is nice one ice roads you dont get that one tire sping faster then the others like the crv. if you ever get the chance going out on the beach is fun to with the soft sand just watch out for high tide.

Most people don't realize that although the Viper hit the street first, the truck engine was developed first. In the early '90's when everyone was going back to the big block engines, the Dodge engineers sent someone out to the warehouse to get the original molds and dies for the wedge 440. When they got to the warehouse it was discovered that someone had "cleaned out the junk" and all that was gone. It would have cost too much to re-do the 440 from scratch, so they decided to add two cylinders to the 318 to see what it would do.
The problem was, it wouldn't fit in a short nosed Dodge 250 (pre-94), and the guys working on the Viper heard about it, so decided to do it in aluminum. The truck with the Viper engine was the RT-10, and it was on a 1500 frame. The Viper engine puts out more horsepower than the truck engine, but less torque (different needs). It is still way too much for that 1500 chassis (the current RT-8 with the Hemi has a sturdier frame and better tranny). The truck V-10 was only available in the 2500HD. They still produced a standard 2500 for a few years, but the biggest you could get with it was the 360. (Standard 2500 had 2500 springs and axles and 1500 brake calipers, not too good if you pulled heavy loads. I had a 1990 standard duty W250.) They learned their lesson and after about 1996, the 2500HD is the only one available now.

That's where a 4x4 has an advantage. When you drop a drive shaft in 2High, you stop, pick up the parts, throw them in back, shift into 4High and drive home as if it's a front wheel drive (which it is temporarily). I have never done it, but have known those who did. They usually drove beaters and just getting home sometimes was sucess.

When I first moved to Lynchburg, in January '81 they were forecasting snow, I went downtown to the Michelin dealer and bought 2 studed snowtires for the front of my '81 Honda Accord. The tire mounter came in and showed me the little red notice that was inside the tire. It said that when mounting studs in the tires on front wheel drive cars, the tires should be mounted in sets of 4. I asked him what that meant. He didn't know, so I stuck with two.

On the way home that night, it was snowing and on Timberlake road (4 land divided with median), and no one else out, I moved to the center of the road and slammed on the brakes. I stopped quickly, after doing an immediate 180 degree spin so that it stopped facing the opposite way. The front tires had the grip (with the studs) and so they stopped and the back didn't. I drove to work the next day very, very carefully and on the way home got the other two mounted. I use those tires on three Hondas over the next 7 years. They only let me down once and the studs were fairly well worn out by then.

You can only run those things from Nov. to Mar., I think. With all the Hills in Lynchburg, you need them and with dry clear roads more often than snowy ones, they will wear down. Never used them. I always mounted all season tires which did well. Front wheel drive vehicles seem to do better than rear whell drives in the snow as well.
