:^0 Ok, I should've said it was a pretty stout piece of gear instead of calling it a horse. Shelby has been around for a long time. There used to be another company that beefed up the Ford full sized cars, or at least the engines, called Holman and Moody. I remember buying a '69 Camaro right after I left the service from a place called Nicky Chevrolet in Chicago. They would buy the things straight from the factory, then trick then out. The one I got had a 427 that was well over 400 HP with a Hurst Dual Gate transmission. It had all kinds of custom but functional goodies. Although it was "street legal", it was a bit much for the street. I ended up buying a second '69 Camaro from a local dealer with a 2 bbl Carb and 307 cu in engine for most of my driving. I would drive the "Big Boy" on Friday and Saturday nights and cruise the Bar-B-Q's and impress the ladies. :D No, although there were some that thought they had the muscle to beat the Camaro, they never got a chance to find out, as I wasn't all that big on street racing. I had one guy that seriously irritated me to the point that I said I would run him title for title and a single run, no 2 out of 3. The one thing I didn't like was that they had put cut outs on it as well. They were legal as long as the cover plates were bolted on. Also with the big headers, that engine was pretty much shoe horned in and there wasn't much room to work on anything. I ended up selling it '86, I think. I wasn't advertising it , but I had driven it to the auto parts store to pick up something. When I came out there was two guys really giving it the once over. He asked me about it and I started it for him. He looked like a kid on Christmas morning. He asked me if I was interested in selling it. I hadn't given it much thought up to that point, but with them lowering the Octane Rating on the Gas and Removing the lead, it had created some problems. I was having to use additives to compensate for it. Anyway, he gave me a price and I hesitated as I was a bit surprised. I guess he must have thought that the price was too low, and he raised it a bunch. I told him if he could show me the money than he had a car and gave him my address and phone number. This was on a Saturday. Monday afternoon, he called and said he would like to come by and look at the car again and that he had the money. I told him Ok and he did. I was expecting a Cashier's ( Bank) Check, but he pulled out cash as I told him I wouldn't take a personnal Check, although I might have, but would have held the title until the check cleared. I was just looking around here as I thought I still had some pictures of that thing. coastie

Spin Tires on Pavement. Isn't that the instruction at those big reg octagonal signs at intersections, you know the sign is small so they have to abbreviate it as STOP.

Hey rt, Actually they are not detuned. It's the addition of the pollution control stuff that drags down the performance, and to some degree the gas mileage. That's what gets me about California, they require all this so called "Calfornia Emission" devices, that 1) decreases over all performance 2) decreases gas mileage and 3) increases the over all cost of the vehicle. Now they are screaming for more fuel efficient vehicles. They can't have it both ways as you are going to have to sacrifice something for the other. When they started lowering the Octane rating of gas and removing the lead, those that had "muscle" cars had two choices, 1) detune the engine and use a lead additive or 2) Use both Octane booster and a lead additive. I took the second course of action. You needed the lead in the older engines, but with engines designed for unleaded fuel, it will only screw up the catalytic converter in the exhaust. That is why you couldn't run leaaded gas in them back when it was still available. They even changed the nozzle size and put a thing in the filler pipe so you couldn't put leaded gas in there. coastie

Hey rtfire1!!

Thankx for the advice but, I still wouldn't play around with it. It's not like opening up a PC !http://forums.pcworld.com/!!

Yes, that's why I got this one. It has 450 horses. It's touted as the strongest of the Shelby's.

In any case ,It is more an investment then a every day car. As you know we have about

six months of snow and salt so, this is just for the Sunday outing on the most sunny of days.

It , however , does not have air conditioning. Only motor and a six speed Top Loader T56 ( Tremec ).

coastie , radios are way to sophisticated to try and run ,after all , I am a law abiding Canadian.

How in the heck would I be able to evade the cops with something like this. You just can't miss

a 450 horse Skunk going down the road, LOL!

This year , they came out with a Shelby GT 500 KR . The KR stands for King of the Road.

The same car as in the movie "Gone in Sixty Seconds". Eleanor.

Hey Flashorn, I don't know about Ontario, but some of the western Provinces have some wide open spaces between you and the Rockies. ]:) My horns are showing.

:^0 Yeah, those AutoBahn's over there are a whole nother thing to be sure. I don't think they have a speed limit in Montana and they may just ignore things in Nevada, although the posted speed may be 75 MPH. I remember that when Nevada was forced to enforce a speed limit ( They didn't have one at one point) they wouldn't even bother unless you were somewhere north of 75 and then they wrote you a $5 energy conservation ticket for using to much gas. I saw both versions of Gone in 60 Seconds . The remake was better than the first one i my opinon.coastie

:^0 OK. I don't think Flashorn has visions of becoming the next Steve McQueen or Richard Petty. :^0 I would hate to get a notification from Flashorn looking for bail for "Flying without wings". :D coastie

Damn Flashie, I didn't pick up in the first photo that it was a Shelby.I remember when the first Mustang came out. I was a Senior in college and they were making a push. The first one looked good but it was thrown together. It had a stright six that was ok, but not great. The instrument cluster was a stamped aluminum housing that came from the Ford Falcon. I bought a VW Bug instead. It was a lot cheaper, the Mustang was over $2,400 and the Bug was $1,500.

A year later, in Pensacola, Fl after starting Flight Training I traded in the Bug for a Triumph TR-4A. Even though it was only a 4 Cyl, with twin Webbers, it would out run a 6 Cyl 'Tang. I made one trip back from Texas and put it in the shop because it didn't seem to be running right. They discovered one carb had vibrated the seat closed, so in fact I was running on 2 Cyl!

Hey rg!!

If only you would have kept that TR. It would be worth a fortune today.

I don't see allot of those on the road anymore and the ones that I do see are in

pristine condition . Church Goers. My sister-in-law well , not at the time , had a

GT 6 Plus. I got to drive that car more often then she did. What a corner grabber that

car was. The only problem we had with it was that the seats would not recline far enough.LOL!!!!

The GT6 Plus had a inline 6 with over head cams and side draft Webers. I would go up to the cottage

in 45 minutes flat as the others could not keep up. It's really too bad you could not hang on to it.

They are still a wonderful car to look at and to drive. You get the real feel of the road unlike the

tugboats of today.

Hey MPH!!

Thank You. But, see what you started?LOL! Already two pages.

I did not mean to boast . I only wanted to upload different types

of photos and this was the only real picture I had on this new notebook.

To tell you the truth , Piyush wanted to see some pictures of it as soon

as I had it in the driveway. But now that the cat is out of the bag well,

I uploaded the ones I took when it arrived at the dealership.

Thankx again MPH.

Hey rtfire1!!

It is a very nice and well restored Mustang. It seems to be pretty straight

and I don't see any signs of body filler either. Did you guys have to replace

the front fenders or any part of the quarter panels?

The paint was done in a body shop as it doesn't seem to have any

dull spots indicating otherwise and the bumpers are also the right shape.

Nice job. I know it takes a very long time to restore a vehicle especially

if you want it to look like factory. Is that a six or a 289ci. I can't see the

little V8 markings on the front fenders.

In any case , this is very good looking example of a very exciting era!

Back in the early 70's, when I was shipped out to Hawaii for my homeport, I shipped my '66 mustang with the 289 in it. Nice car until the new wife loaned it to a friend while I was deployed to the Gulf of Tonkin. They ran it out of water and cracked the block. A shipmate had a new Roadrunner with the 383 that he wrecked and he gave me the motor. It wasn't too hard to get it in the stang and it was a real runner. Used to take it out to Barbers Point on Oahu for Thursday night grudge races and no one could catch it. I ran the quarter mile enough times that I could put a ten point two on the windows and know it wouldn't break out. That was hot for a street car. I couldn't find enough road to see how fast it would go but it buried the speedo at 160 plus. Traded it for a condo down payment, near $35,000. My son and I are working on a '74 Capri, german built and installing an LS1 in it. 74 and prior here in California doesn't require any smog so you can imagine how many horses that thing puts out, headers and an electric supercharger with the go fast chip in the ECU. I figure it'll make a great head turner with just the old body style which is rare and all they'll see after that will be the tail lights. September they'll be having a PINKS ALL OUT at Sears Point in the north bay and I figure it will be too fast for the show. A fuel cell, full roll cage, five point safety harness and halon fire system. Will probably have to register with the NHRA for prostreet and then it'll have to be trailered after that. I'm thinking it'll be close to an eight second car and through the traps near 180. It only weighs 2500 pounds, just 150 pounds over the stock listing, thanks to an all aluminum engine.
