Hey rt, Actually they are not detuned. It's the addition of the pollution control stuff that drags down the performance, and to some degree the gas mileage. That's what gets me about California, they require all this so called "Calfornia Emission" devices, that 1) decreases over all performance 2) decreases gas mileage and 3) increases the over all cost of the vehicle. Now they are screaming for more fuel efficient vehicles. They can't have it both ways as you are going to have to sacrifice something for the other. When they started lowering the Octane rating of gas and removing the lead, those that had "muscle" cars had two choices, 1) detune the engine and use a lead additive or 2) Use both Octane booster and a lead additive. I took the second course of action. You needed the lead in the older engines, but with engines designed for unleaded fuel, it will only screw up the catalytic converter in the exhaust. That is why you couldn't run leaaded gas in them back when it was still available. They even changed the nozzle size and put a thing in the filler pipe so you couldn't put leaded gas in there. coastie

Thankx for the advice but, I still wouldn't play around with it. It's not like opening up a PC !http://forums.pcworld.com/!!
Yes, that's why I got this one. It has 450 horses. It's touted as the strongest of the Shelby's.
In any case ,It is more an investment then a every day car. As you know we have about
six months of snow and salt so, this is just for the Sunday outing on the most sunny of days.
It , however , does not have air conditioning. Only motor and a six speed Top Loader T56 ( Tremec ).
coastie , radios are way to sophisticated to try and run ,after all , I am a law abiding Canadian.
How in the heck would I be able to evade the cops with something like this. You just can't miss
a 450 horse Skunk going down the road, LOL!
This year , they came out with a Shelby GT 500 KR . The KR stands for King of the Road.
The same car as in the movie "Gone in Sixty Seconds". Eleanor.

A year later, in Pensacola, Fl after starting Flight Training I traded in the Bug for a Triumph TR-4A. Even though it was only a 4 Cyl, with twin Webbers, it would out run a 6 Cyl 'Tang. I made one trip back from Texas and put it in the shop because it didn't seem to be running right. They discovered one carb had vibrated the seat closed, so in fact I was running on 2 Cyl!

If only you would have kept that TR. It would be worth a fortune today.
I don't see allot of those on the road anymore and the ones that I do see are in
pristine condition . Church Goers. My sister-in-law well , not at the time , had a
GT 6 Plus. I got to drive that car more often then she did. What a corner grabber that
car was. The only problem we had with it was that the seats would not recline far enough.LOL!!!!
The GT6 Plus had a inline 6 with over head cams and side draft Webers. I would go up to the cottage
in 45 minutes flat as the others could not keep up. It's really too bad you could not hang on to it.
They are still a wonderful car to look at and to drive. You get the real feel of the road unlike the
tugboats of today.

Thank You. But, see what you started?LOL! Already two pages.
I did not mean to boast . I only wanted to upload different types
of photos and this was the only real picture I had on this new notebook.
To tell you the truth , Piyush wanted to see some pictures of it as soon
as I had it in the driveway. But now that the cat is out of the bag well,
I uploaded the ones I took when it arrived at the dealership.
Thankx again MPH.

It is a very nice and well restored Mustang. It seems to be pretty straight
and I don't see any signs of body filler either. Did you guys have to replace
the front fenders or any part of the quarter panels?
The paint was done in a body shop as it doesn't seem to have any
dull spots indicating otherwise and the bumpers are also the right shape.
Nice job. I know it takes a very long time to restore a vehicle especially
if you want it to look like factory. Is that a six or a 289ci. I can't see the
little V8 markings on the front fenders.
In any case , this is very good looking example of a very exciting era!
