Sony is also manufacturing large numbers of shovels ... to dig their own graves. Microsoft already won this round, long live the 360!

Gosh. Isn't it amazing how in the months leading up to the release of a new console manufacturers always promise that millions of units will be available. But then as the release date gets closer some mysterious "problem" in the manufacturing cycle occurs that limits the number of units that will be available, thus touching off a frenzy of pre-sale buying and not coincidentally early profits on products that haven't even shipped for the manufacturers and retailers. There is also the gobs of free publicity that such an artificial shortage guarantees. Advertising that you don't have to pay for? That's every marketers dream. I can write the stories now -- shoppers line up for days to get their hands on this year's MUST HAVE holiday gift. Forlorn parents pay hundreds over retail to keep their children from being heartbroken.Am I skeptical about this latest alleged shortage? You bet. Is it a good marketing strategy? For the company, absolutely. For the consumer, nope.

I agree. Microsoft is already well positioned for this Christmas. While Sony deals with stocking up only five stores in the US, Microsoft is back and ready better than ever to beat, yet again, the battle in the third generation. I don't own an XBox, but I am a heck of a Microsoft enthusiast. Plus, Blue-Ray is also on its way to the graves that Sony is digging up. Go Microsoft!

lol this happened last time with the release of the ps2. Yes yes they want to get it for the holiday season..Jesus at the current price of 500/600 for there system who can afford it anyway!!!Also I heard a rumor that they were going to make it so YOU don't own the video game, so therefor you don't have the right to sell it therefore stores like EB games and Game Stop can't buy or resell games (nor could you legally on ebay) which is what makes up a chunk of ther eprofilt. And YOU have to guy a brand new shiney full priced game every time!Retarted! Who knows if there going to actually do this or not. Yes, yes many people will be getting a 360 for christmas this year huh? For me I'm waiting for Zelda and the Wii!

I have been disappointed with Sony because of their PS-2 foul-ups, though I would like to purchase a PS-3 I will not be at the murcy of Sony, if Sony chooses to send out fewer units than expected, and I can't purchase one, that will be the last straw, I will disown Sony's Playstation and convert my intertanment interest into X-Box.
