Looking to buy a new laptop to replace existing desktop. Also want to be able to play games (ranging from old school games to newer stuff like Halo). Don't care about laptop size, weight, or screen resolution, because will mostly use it wirelessly and use HDtv as screen. I'm considering a Dell machine with an Integrated Intel Graphics Media Acelerator 950 card. Will this good enough to render the higher end games with 3D graphics? Any advice/direction is greatly appreciated.btw, the other specs on the machine are Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 Processor (1.66 GHz), 80GB Hard Drive, Intel PRO/Wireless 3945, 1GB Dual Channel Shared DDR2 533MHz.

No, 256 mb card will be best, check out Asus, Acer or an Alienware. HP and Leveno run cheap but don't have power. Sager (5950) has an Alienware mALX barebone with 1 gb of graphics that will cost you around 3500 souped up, which is very nice desktop replacement and supplies a lot of power! Probably the best as of now.

Do you think 128MB dedicated will be enough plus up to 512MB hypermemory for running games (like halo as stated by the origonal poster)?

I would have to go with ArchsageVal on this one. You don't want intergated graphics. If your going to drop the money on a laptop in the first place then a 512 card is the best way to go. Seeing that laptops are not really upgradeable at this time like desktops then the best bang for you buck is to go high in on the laptop to last a few years. Now for Dell I myself hate Dell :x I bought a Dell Insporon 6000 rated #2 by PCworld in their top 5 last year. Well, a year later I have had 4 hard drives crash, a video card swap, and the cdrom go bad. Plus to top it off I have one of the bad batteries that is on the recall list. Dell blows!!!! I wouldn't go Alienware since Dell owns them.Jastus

Dell have let Europe down, I have been a customer with Dell for as long as they have been arround. Liked them because they wher no noncense fully loaded quality company.Have spent many thousands of pounds with them for clients and held there name in high respect. Now you have to put up with rude, non intelectual telesales people in India and no US or European Support for Sales or Support. The service Stinks, Dell is going down the road to common back of truck sales. Hmm (Dellboy Rings Bells) You probably find them trading your full Credit Card Details along with a Korean Counterfate Dell on the Backstreets of Deli or Mombai. Upon trying to contact Local Sales They are using scripts, refering back to themselves that are missleading and not fully truthfull to gain the sale. Dell staff get commissions on sales, i know this because every sale i brought them i asked because i liked the service of the staff and didn't mind one bit they got this. The service was there! Try to make a sale through the supervisor via staff.I am not too sorry to say i didn't order the XPS1710 from Dell, though the specs are near enough the best. Customer services are a factor that puts me off.OK That done with could anyone advice on a Super Game System with these Specs and A Tough Rugged Case. (Dont say Alienware for the sake of it.. Please (To Me There Over Rated, Over Priced and Use AMD) They used to be the Bollox in the old days.Looking for Pentium 4 Duo Mobile 1.8Ghz-2.3Ghz (Not sure of genuine Mobile Duo above this), Prefere ATI X1800 256Mb DDR3 + (or Genuine 512Mb) Optional Nvidia GTX 7950 with genuine 512Mb.Basically i want a Super Laptop for Gaming with the minimal spec above but robust (well i want to through it about, maybe knock an enemy or thief on the head and sit down and logon, maybe report the crime etc. Price is No object, Kewl is.Favorite Games: COD, MOH, COH (FPS; First Person Shooters)AKA ColinskiPPS. New to me about Alienware re Dell owns them.Once they where good, now there cheep product that could explain Flash brand yet expensive name with lower end specs. I wouldn't touch AMD Look at the records from 1997 onwards. Look at how the CPU Names where made to decieve. Seriously look at the CPU record in those days, you will know who to trust. ITS IN THE FACE.Guidelines to watch are. Intel; Cyrix... IBM; Compaq.... Cyrix; AMD etc...HP. HP timing chip (Printers) Check Speed capacity, compatability etc. all used to be IBM Compatable yet Only non branded product used to be fully non conpatable. Guess what... IBM Was not even IBM Compatable !!!DDS.

Tell us how you truely feel CarI97!!!!! :wink:I do have to agree with you on Dell I had went rounds with them the first time I bought a laptop through them and I figured I could trust them one more time and it just went down hill from there. Now as for Laptops I myself just bought one from xoticpc.com and I have to say WOW!! I myself am a AMD guy Intel has not impressed me over the years but the newest chip they offer turned my head. As for video cards I am hands down Nvidia lover. ATI to me has not impressed me at all. I will agree they make kickin cards but tend not to support them with fast reliable drivers. Now as far as I know and have read or seen the Nvidia 7950 is a desktop card. They do offer dual video cards in laptops and I think you could find what you are looking for at xoticpc.com.Again it depends on what it is your looking for. I myself tried to find a laptop with both a dual core and dual video cards but I have yet to find a place that sells them like that. You are forced to chose one or the other not both. I myself with with a dual core and high end video card and it is a screaming rig and good to play any game out there for the next year for sure. So take a look at xoticpc.com see what you think. Good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for and trust me I know how you feel about the laptops. Jastus

Satan in a box i say! Use something with a dedicated card. Upgrading is useless, itd cost more than the laptop. Try a new laptop with either two video cards, or with two processors (i dont think both are out quite yet) and 2 gigs or ram optimumly. Don't get a 17 incher unless you want to, otherwise you're paying for the screen, not much else. intergrated graphics cannot do much. However anything dedicated wether nVidia or ATI will work. Try a combo or AMD ATI or Intel nVidia for best preformance.
