You seem to be confusing system memory and the hard drive. This mistake is quite common since they're both usually measured in gigabytes.
RAM does not have a drive letter and is not partitioned.
Hard drives do have drive letters and are partitioned (even if it's only a single partition).
RAM is generally less than 20GB.
Hard drives now are often several hundred GB.
RAM is where programs are run.
Hard drives, basically, are where programs are kept when they're not being run.
If all you're doing is adding RAM, you don't need to be concerned about your internet connections or files. The settings and files are saved to the hard drive.
If you replace the hard drive on the other hand... that's a whole 'nuther ball of wax. Everything you've ever changed, configured or done is saved there.
Now that the difference has been explained, what are you considering doing?
