Google Wave: Just Around The Corner?

1. Single Point of Access. Many of thefunctions of Google Wave already exist, but require logging intoseparate applications- email, instant messaging, office productivity, blogging, etc. Google Wave will provide you with one platform that tiesall of these separate applications together.
2. Next-Generation Communication.A Wave is part email, part instant message, and part document. Itcombines text, photos, video, maps, and other elements into a singlecommunication stream, enabling richer, more dynamic conversations.
Wave really blurs the line between the various methods of communicationyou are used to. You can instantly add new participants to a wave bydragging them from your contact list. You can also link to other waves, photos, and other content elements by simply dragging them into thewave.
3. Real-time Sharing and Collaboration.Arguably the most compelling aspect of Google Wave is the real-timecollaboration functionality. Wave participants can comment inline andthe statements are accompanied by the user's avatar and a timestampallowing you to easily identify who said what, when.
Userscan see text appear in the wave as it is being typed- even as they typoand backspace to correct the text. Wave participants can view and editthe same content at the same time-collaborating in real-time.
Even cooler is the Playback function which allows new participants whojust joined the wave to play the wave stream back post by post. Theycan add comments and edit text as they go through the stream and getcaught up on their own schedule so they can join the real-timeconversation.
4. The Wave Lives On. Awave is like an email or instant message on steroids. The entire wavehas a life of its own. Participants on the wave are notified as thewave is updated or modified, and the wave can be easily searched basedon any content of the wave-dynamically updating potential results asyou type.
You can link to waves from other email andinstant messaging clients, and you can also embed waves within websites or social networking services using Google Wave API's.
5. Its in the Cloud. One of the things that Google has always brought to the table isWeb-based access. Not only is it nice to combine email, instantmessaging, and other online communications in one place-it is also niceto be able to access the platform seamlessly from anywhere in theworld. Have Web access? You can Wave.
It still remains to be seen if Google Wave is a competitor for social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, or if it's a unified communications tool competing against Microsoftand Cisco. If it's as revolutionary as Google makes it sound, perhapsit is all of the above and none of the above at the same time. (Source: PC World Business Center)

Google Wave is basically "Gmail 2.0", with a heavier emphasis on cloud chatting technology. Check out the product pitch video below to learn more:

Wow Kyle. My request did make it to a new forum
I have to say, Google Wave is very nice according to news articles. However, if it is an email client, my mother will get mad. She doesn't trust Google in the email area, so I certainly don't want to get in trouble for switching email, unless it is a second account alongside AT&T.
Best regards,
Kenny Strawn
P.S. One more update to my list: I need to be invited by somebody to use Google Wave, and need to activate my account for it. Kyle, please PM me with an activation URL.

It is not an email client as you or I know it. Like Kyle mentioned, it is more virtual, more cloud based than anything else. Emails appear as Instant Messages. I have not used it yet but the video sort of speaks for itself. It may not find its way into mainstream usage like emailing but it has a host of other applications, especially in the corporate environment.

It is related to Time Zones. You need to make sure your user settings for your forum account is set to the correct Time Zone for you location.
To do so, click on the pull-down menu with your user ID on it in the upper right corner of ANY forum page and select "My Settings" from the menu. That should take you to a settings screen where the second section on the screen is titled "Time Zone". Select the appropriate Time Zone for your location from the menu and then click the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the screen. Everything should be correct then.
