Any suggestions for cleaning a DVD drive that suddenly stopped reading. It won't accept a cleaning disk because it is not sensing that it is there.

Hi, You said DVD Drive, but usually these things are CD / DVD. If this is the case, are we talking about not reading CD's or DVD's ? Also how old is the computer? I will recount a personal experience. Mine quit reading discs or so I thought. I tried the cleaning thing and it didn't work. I was a bit puzzled as I had just installed a game in here just fine, but wouldn't install a second game. I uninstalled the first game and then reinstalled it with no problem, but again the secong game wouldn't even read. After going through the registry and checking things there, it finally dawned on me that the game I had installed was on DVD and the one that wouldn't read was on CD. DVD and CD run on two different wave lengths, so I figured out that the CD portion of the laser was gone. I bought another Optical drive ( about $30) and iinstalled it and all has been fine.
