Hi All

I have a Dell dimension 8300 desktop. It is five years old.

Yesterday, when I switched it on,I saw the screen for one second and then it went blank.

Also, everytime when I switched the monitor off and back on again it did the same - that is come on for one second and then blank.

Any advice appreciated as dont want to spend on a new monitor...called dell and they told me they will charge me £329 for them to come and have a look.....big joke!!!

Many thanks

For the one second that it is one, what do you see? Do you see any of the computer BIOS boot screen information? Or is more like the monitor comes on for a second, but does not actually display anything?

Do you have another computer that you could try that monitor with or another monitor you could try with that computer? Maybe take them over to a friend's house?

Does the monitor come on at all? I am thinking "no", but it is 100% from your post.

My first blush would be a graphics card/system problem, but we definitely need more information...

Howdy!
I also have an HP m8530f (had I read reviews first I wouldn't have)Came with w1907 monitor, which, 2 months out of warranty, starts, shows input status for 2 - 3 seconds, then goes black. Connected to an old dell tower; same thing. Back and forth with an HP parrot "rrrraaaugh! out of warranty, out of warranty! After further research, apparently this is a widespread issue with HP LCD monitors; Just search "monitor goes black" and you'll find a list. You can also find a list on the HP forum, as I pointed out to the HP parrot. SOOO....
I have lodged complaints with B.B.B. and the consumer protection agency; I'm supposed to get a response from BBB in by about the end of Jan. Any with the same problem might consider doing the same, and maybe we'll get some reaction.
In the meantime, my hard drive has failed (1 yr. 4 mos. out of warranty).
Need I say more?
