Hi!
Don't know if this has already been asked (a quick search came up with nothing!)
I have installed Win 7 on my PC, and it has obviously come with the latest versions of software. What I find very annoying is that when I log in to hotmail in IE, Live Messenger starts up (although not logged in). I don't want this to happen, so is there some way of disabling this? I have already disabled auto-start of Messenger via msconfig; this is another problem.
Any thoughts / solutions appreciated!
Thanks,
Al.

To disable Messenger integration in IE, open up Internet Explorer and choose the Tools menu.
Then choose Manage Add-ons.
Show the entries that run without permission and the specific entry you'll want to disable is
"Windows Live", which corresponds to the \Program Files\Windows Live\msgsc.14.0.8089.0726.dll
file and CLSID/Class ID is
{4F07F79F-087F-42CF-8B36-7A88D06088E9}. You may need to show the various columns to find the
exact one (there will be multiple 'Windows Live' entries). Double-click each entry for the
full information to show.
After you've found it, choose the button to Disable it and Messenger will no longer be
started by any Microsoft websites. Be aware however that if/when Messenger is updated, this
will be need to be done again (and will be a different file and CLSID).
Hope that´ll help !

The Dix,
Thanks very much - you led me to the right place. The Class ID you posted didn't work for me, but by playing around, this one did: {E1771B7F-98BE-407F-BA67-AA16ADA5D0C5}. I found it by loading hotmail, and waiting for messenger to start - and then looked at the 'currently loaded add-ons' in the Manage Add-ons page. It has the same dll as posted, though.
Cheers,
Al.
