I want to use my DVD camcorder as an analog to digital converter. Does anyone know if I'll need to install drivers on my desktop in order for the camera to be recognized? I don't have the optional DZ-Winpc3 kit which has software and a cable. I read that I can use a standard 5 pin male USB connector on the camera side and a USB connector on the pc side. I am running Windows XP and also have a firewire port available. What more does it take to convert VHS to DVD?

Hooking up the DVD camcorder via the USB ports is a good start, but only half the battle. You will also need software to be able to recognize the device and a program to display the input in a video format. Converting VHS to DVD is another matter. For that you'll need a video capture device that will accept a composite video input and store it on the hard drive of your comouter. From there you'll need to use a DVD burner drive and its software to find the video saved and burn it to a DVD.
