Media centre has more entertainment features than xp pro, xp pro has more business features than media centre. Media centre inherently supports remote controls and DVD playback without additional software.

If I had my choice, I would rather have XP Pro any day. You can still play movies on the system and it has much better security, and is really a more robust operating system. XP Media Center Edition appears to be XP Home with more media extensions. I have been looking at a Toshiba notebook at the local Office Depot, really great machine, but it comes with Media Center, and I would much prefer XP Pro. It would be a downgrade to to to Media Center.Of course, for folks who want a home entertainment system on their pc, Media Edition is probably the way to go.

Media Center is actually built over the foundation of XP Pro and retains much the XP Pro's programing.Rich

Some of XP pro features are not available in Media Center edition because it is designed for home use, not for business purpose. I wish I could find the detailed comparison between two and share it here. Anyway, the FAQ points out one critical point regarding the network domain. If the domain access/join is important to you, definitely Media Center edition will not serve you well.http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediacenter/evaluation/faq.mspxLook at the question: Can I connect a new PC running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 to a work network or domain?
