I currecntly own a compaq presario SR1230NX And im finally looking to upgrade but i dont know what to go with since there is many things on the market. I dont know what brand computer towers to go with EXE. HP,DELL, ETC. I dont know whether to go with Windows vista, Windows 7. What i do know is that i want to have decent hardrive space and decent graphics since i own a asus 21.5in that has the hd feature. Just something that is decent and that isnt too expensive. I have seen a few towers at wal-mart for a decent price but not sure if they have good stuff nor i know what exactly to look for when buying a Tower. Not sure if it matters but i have a logitech computer surround sound. THNX. Input is appriciated.

PS: Not sure if i posted in the correct category, if so relocate me! :)

Hi Explicit, welcome to PC World forums! That's really a decent setup for the price. It's tough to build one yourself for $400. The only drawback I see is that it uses and integrated graphics processor, but you could always add one later if you found you needed one.

Looks like a decent tower for the price. You can upgrade the video if you chose, there is 1 PCI-E x16 slot available on the MOBO. The power supply is only 300 watts so you will be limited on what video cards you can use, unless you upgrade the power supply as well.

I moved your topic to the Desktops forum. While the Windows forum was an OK choice, this forum is likely a better choice, which means you might get more assistance with your question.

If your budget can handle it, you might want to look at this:
http://www.tigerdire...WEM2078-_-tiger

I ordered one the other other day. Has two PCIe x16 2.0 Slots and may be Crossfire/sli capable. Technology wise, you will be up to date and can stay up to date for quite sometime. I don't really need a new desktop at this time as this eMachines is humming along quite nicely. It WAS a deal too good to pass up.

I was over at the eMachines site and that it appears to be a WalMart exclusive. Also, I could find no mention of ANY expansion slots, so you may be saddled with the onboard chipset. Other than that, it appeaers to be a pretty decent machine, although you would want the PCIe expansion capabity, even it was just one slot.

From this page, it appears it is only Crossfire compatible.

From what I understand, this is generally true of motherboards for the i7 processors...I believe that most only support Crossfire right now, not SLI.

Thanks smax. I am not up to speed on those i7's and missed the fact that "matched' sets of memory was in three instead of two as well. Oh well, back to the learning curve. Posted Image Some models did hace 3 Gb of additional memory + an Nvidia GTX card. Wasn't real big on the ati HD4850 card that was installed in the one I ordered, but guess I'll live with it.

Actually, most X58 boards support both Crossfire and SLI. There are a few don't support SLI. The X58 was the first Intel chipset to be licensed for SLI. However, I think you're right in that Coastie's motherboard supports only Crossfire.

Looks good, unfortunantly it doesn't list a price and shows to be unavailable. I was looking into getting windows 7 since I heard that its better than vista, since it corrected its errors or something like that. I guess you can say my price range is about $500. I just want something decent, keep in mind im only planning on buying the tower ONLY not the complete desktop. Thanks (:

Im leaning towards getting the tower I mentioned above. But i am not a gamer. But i do tend to have windows media player along with a few other tasks running at the same time. I just want something decent that will be able to handle that. I hear that the quad core processors could handle that kind of stuff but with this tower that i mentioned above is a dual core. I just dont want to get something that will surprise me and regret buying the tower. THNX

As I said in my earlier post, That eMachines is a good machine with good specs. The only Issue i would have with it personally is the lack of any expansion slots. Other than that it seems to be pretty solid.
