I'm experiencing a strange problem when I have an Internet Shortcut to ftp://ftp.fsl.cs.sun...edu/pub/unionfs on my desktop. If I try to save a web page on my desktop the Save As dialog takes a loooong time to show the files on my desktop. On a whim I recorded the network traffic during this time and some process on my machine is doing an FTP access to this site. This (the FPT transaction) happens even if the link points to some other site. It's just that the above site is very slow in responding to the connect request. Anyone have an idea what is going on? How can I find out which process is doing this?

{size:18px}[/size]:D Hi Dave : Have you run a "full scan" from a GOOD antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN program, to see if it "detects" anything ? Since you failed to mention the NAME of your Operating System, I recommend "a-squared FREE", which you can read about at : www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/

Hi SpiritWind,Thanks for the response.I guess saying Internet Explorer is a little vague. This happens on Win2K and WinXP-Pro with all updates installed so I think this is something systematic.I run AV software on all my machines and periodically do full scans with TrendMicro's Houscall. I also tried this on a virgin system - literally fresh out of the box behind firewalls with MS's firewall enabled. Not likely to have been zapped yet - same problem. But just for chuckles I'll run the scanner you recommend.dave
