Everytime I plug it in to use it (it isn't USB, it has separate mic and headphone plugs), I hear this strange high pitch scratchy sound. I tried to even record my voice, but the sound appears on the recordings as well.

Attached to this post is a sound clip of the noise.

Please help me figure out what is causing that sound.

Has it always had the sound? Or did it just start happening recently?

Have you tried it without plugging in the mic plug? This could tell us if it might be some sort of feedback from the mic.

What kind of computer are you plugging it into? Laptop? Desktop? Could the computer have another mic somewhere on it?

It's a desktop, and there are no other microphones plugged in.

I have yet to try recording without the headphones plugged in, I'll get back to you on that.

It's had the sound for quite awhile. I was kinda thinking it might be the sound card going on me.

My first guess would be some sort of feedback or interference. If you have external speakers, sometimes having the mic too close to them will cause some feedback. It could also be some sort of interference from maybe a cell phone...do you have a cell phone near the computer? Or maybe something else interfering.

It could be the sound card going bad, but I would try the "easier" things to potentially "isolate" first.

Well, I removed my phone from the area and it isn't any different, so I'm assuming it's the sound card that's dying on me. The noise comes from my headphones and is picked up by my microphone, and when I move away from the speakers with my headset still on, I still hear the noise.

Good thing sound cards aren't too expensive.
