Like the 18 year old in my English class that was not only unable to read, but when you asked him a question you got either A) a response that made no sense or B) a response to the wrong question. I still don't know how the poor kid made it to become a senior... Anyway, you'd be surprised at how dumb uneducated people can be.

This article reminds me of that website http://www.snarkyanswers.com. I also have the book Snarky Responses to Yahoo! Answers and it is hysterical.

I thought some of the "comments" left on here were funny, as well. How can one person call someone else "dumb" and have a completely idiotic sentence?

To the PCWorld commenters:

You've been on the internet all this time, and you still don't know what trolling is? It's wildly prevalent on Yahoo Answers.

Nonetheless, this was a very funny article. The jackalope line made me laugh. :D

Yes, it's amazing what brains operate -- or don't -- out there, isn't it?

Trust me--age has nothing to do with how dumb people can be. I once sent a PDF file on a CD disk--it was several hundred MB--to a customer (a lawyer) and when he received it, he called me to ask how to open it. He told me his secretary usually does that sort of thing for him and she had left for the day. I had to walk the guy through the process step by step. Even those who have good writing skills, tend to write very poorly when it comes to the internet and email. And why do people manage to get through 12+ years of school and still be dumb as a post? It's the poor quality of our educational system. I went through it in the 1950s and 60s and by junior high I knew more than most of my teachers. Remember the phrase, "Those who can't do, teach"? It is all too true. And some teachers will pass stupid kids just because they don't want to have to deal with them again next year. My apologies to those few exceptional teachers who really do care and go above and beyond to teach their students. I had a few--far too few--and many, many more are needed.

I'd like to know why ten people (the count at the point when I read this article) voted "No"+ for this piece. Perhaps they recognized themselves among the dumb-ass answers?

Didn't your mammas raise you right? Don't you know there are no stupid questions?
I actually think several of the first page questions are intentionally stupid. I mean, come on. I sold my car for gas money. That's a joke. Not very original either. Very funny article. God, I'm wasting so much time on this Internet thing.

These were probably posted by congressmen and senators. They are the only people I can think of, that would ponder such deep questions.
My neighbors 17 year old daughter was standing in the driveway looking under the hood of her car. Being a gentleman at times, I asked if I could help her. Her father told her to put a quart of oil in the car. She ask me where the oil went, I pointed to the oil cap, she smiled and told me she it could not possibly go their, "how would I put this entire bottle in that little hole" was her reply. I took the cap off the quart of oil and poured it in for her. Reminded me of the old 710 joke. They walk and DRIVE among us. Another fine example of outcomes based education, she graduated with honors this year from high school.

If you ever tried to walk someone through a program installation over the phone, it becomes quite apparant how cruel nature can be to some people. I told a lady to puch the control/alt/delete button on her computer, after about a 45 second pause, should told me she did not have that button on her keyboard.

that is correct - and as the great Mr Garrison once said:
"There are no stupid questions, only stupid people"
"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'" -- Isaac Asimov

You'd be astonished at how many of them own small businesses. I've worked for a few.
