Personally, Linux. Though I'm not that picky.I don't know which is the "best," as it really is different for each situation.I personally prefer SuSE and Slackware, for Linux distros.

It all depends on what you need to do. Would you game with Linux? Would you make a server with Mac? Would you create a half hour animation with Windows? Here is my list on what each O.S. is good for:Windows = GamingMac = Multimedia CreationLinux/Unix = Server and Basic web browsingPersonally I like Windows, because I am an avid PC gamer. Still, I use a Mac alot, and just got a 159 buck Linux.

I'd agree with genedefcon inthat it really depends on what you're doing. Macs have amazingly intuitive multimedia editing, whereas Audacity and the like are nigh on impossibe to work with, although if you don't care about podcasting, WMP 11 beats itunes hands down.

There is no such thing as a best operating system because its all up to you. You use whatever operating system you feel comfortable using so there is no best. Whatever os meets your needs thats your best. In my case it would be xp pro

Hey, lilx and kilme both made good points. Personally, I use XP MCE 2005, although I haven't really exercised the "Media" aspects as yet. As has been prevoiusly stated, it depends on what suits your individual needs. With XP MCE 2005, I added Micro$oft Works 9.0, primarily for the WP and what other apps I might find useful. coastie65

agree with you , lilx made a good point.
MCE looks good, i use it on vista , not always but sometimes. The library sort of comes alive on media center.

I think Mac OS 10.5 is the absolute best, but practically WinXP and Xubuntu Linux are the best. Under no circumstances will I use WinVi$ta.

Agree with you about Vista, but what do you mean by "practically" as opposed to "absolutely"?

As in Mac 10.5 is the most stable and usable OS, but WinXP and Linux have the most apps, or in Linux's case emulators to run said apps made for Win.

I use Vista now, but a combination of Vista and XP-functionality would be great.

The best OS is XP Home SP3.

No matter what you wanna do with it.
If you want to you can also have vista on a dual boot just in case there are times when you gotta havta have vista.

The best operating system is the one that does what YOU want it to do in an efficient and easy way...which means what is best for me might not be what is best for you.

Personally, I like the Mac OS better than any flavor of Windoze. But, there are times that Windoze is the better OS for a task I might be undertaking. Does that mean that I think the Mac OS is better than Windoze. Yes and no. At times, I do consider it better. Other times, not so much.

In the end, an OS is a tool. If the tool does not do what you need it to do, then it is mostly the not the appropriate tool for that task...so pick another one. It is kind of like asking which screwdriver is the best screwdriver...a flat head or a phillps head. If you have a flat head screw, then that trusty, handy, dandy phillips head driver you have is useless and thus NOT the best screwdriver for that task.

i like linux because it's secure, easy to use, and best of all, it's free. Windows is a stretch for second, but has the best overall compatibility with software, hardware, devices, etc.

I'm still windows dependent, but i'm woking on going to lin-win dual boot.
