It all depends on what you need to do. Would you game with Linux? Would you make a server with Mac? Would you create a half hour animation with Windows? Here is my list on what each O.S. is good for:Windows = GamingMac = Multimedia CreationLinux/Unix = Server and Basic web browsingPersonally I like Windows, because I am an avid PC gamer. Still, I use a Mac alot, and just got a 159 buck Linux.

I'd agree with genedefcon inthat it really depends on what you're doing. Macs have amazingly intuitive multimedia editing, whereas Audacity and the like are nigh on impossibe to work with, although if you don't care about podcasting, WMP 11 beats itunes hands down.

Hey, lilx and kilme both made good points. Personally, I use XP MCE 2005, although I haven't really exercised the "Media" aspects as yet. As has been prevoiusly stated, it depends on what suits your individual needs. With XP MCE 2005, I added Micro$oft Works 9.0, primarily for the WP and what other apps I might find useful. coastie65

The best operating system is the one that does what YOU want it to do in an efficient and easy way...which means what is best for me might not be what is best for you.
Personally, I like the Mac OS better than any flavor of Windoze. But, there are times that Windoze is the better OS for a task I might be undertaking. Does that mean that I think the Mac OS is better than Windoze. Yes and no. At times, I do consider it better. Other times, not so much.
In the end, an OS is a tool. If the tool does not do what you need it to do, then it is mostly the not the appropriate tool for that task...so pick another one. It is kind of like asking which screwdriver is the best screwdriver...a flat head or a phillps head. If you have a flat head screw, then that trusty, handy, dandy phillips head driver you have is useless and thus NOT the best screwdriver for that task.

i like linux because it's secure, easy to use, and best of all, it's free. Windows is a stretch for second, but has the best overall compatibility with software, hardware, devices, etc.
I'm still windows dependent, but i'm woking on going to lin-win dual boot.
