I have some photos which I think were edited in mspaint and parts of the photos are blocked when I open the photo. When I just view the thumbnail, the entire photo is visible, althought very small, and does not have the blocks/edits in place unless I refresh the thumbnail. Is there any way to remove the edits on the full size photo?

My short answer would be that you probably have lost the original image and cannot get back to it, if that is what you're attempting.
The reason you can see the original in the thumbnail is that the camera captured the image and immediately made a thumb and embedded it in the photo at creation time. It is put in the EXIF data as we say. I have a post in this forum on an app you can use to remove that thumb, if you don't want to confuse viewers with a thumb that shows one thing but shows another when it's opened. But in your case you want to return to the thumb -- I don't think it's possible.
