I'm trying to install Photoshop 5.0. I keep getting an error message that it " can't be initialized; not enough RAM". I have, according to my computer, 3.0 GB of RAM.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ed

Greetings! Welcome to the PCWorld forums!
I moved your question to the Photo Editing forum as it is likely a better fit for your question.
As to your question...
Which version of Windows are you currently trying to install Photoshop 5.0 on? While it may not be the ultimate answer, my first blush thought would be that since Photoshop 5.0 is such a older version, if you are trying to install it with say a 64 bit version of Windows Vista or Windows 7, then that could be the issue. I vaguely recall a previous user asking about installing version 5.0 on 64 bit Vista and after doing some research, it seemed that it was not possible...potentially due to the Photoshop 5.0 installer program actually potentially being a 16 bit program, which appear to not be able to run at all in a 64 bit OS.

Thanks!
I am running 64 bit Vista.
That could be it.
Thanks a lot.

We have the same problem with an old Microsoft program, PictureIt!99, which my wife still likes to use. Try right-clicking the Photoshop icon and selecting "Run as Administrator" --- that's the workaround for PictureIt! and maybe it will work for you.

Indeed my friend.
But in all seriousness, here is a link to a program that may help you gauge how much RAM you're using. Iobit makes a program called Advanced System Care which includes a SmartRAM manager that allows you to see exactly how much RAM you have to spare in your taskbar. I use it myself and I highly recommend it. Here's the link to some downloads.

Hope this helps.
