Multiple Lcd Connections Connect 2 PC's to 1 monitor w/o a swtich

Does anyone know if it is safe to connect two PC's to one LCD monitor using VGA for one connection and DVI for the other?

Hi. Unless the Monitor is capable of manually switching from one input to the other you will accomplish nothing. I have a Samsung with both and it uses the input signal that is picked up automatically. I have it through DVI so it will search for a signal, first analog then Digital, which is the signal coming in and settle on Digital.

I don't think that would be a good idea, you could damage your monitor. To hook up two computers to one monitor you should use a product like this one, it will allow you to safely hook up two computers to one monitor, plus you only need one keyboard and mouse to operate them.

Assuming you have a monitor that can switch between input modes, then it is a perfectly fine method of doing it...I use that on BOTH my monitors and have for a LONG, LONG time. Most monitors will have an auto-detect, but also a manual mode to switch between the two modes. It should not harm the monitor at all...it is no different than switching between input modes on an HDTV (which is done all the time).

The monitor I'm using has the option to manually switch from DVI to VGA. Both connections are now being used with no problems. Thanks for your replies.
