I read this online and it worked GREAT!
I had confidential Financial data and Passwords on my external "backup" drive.
It disc stopped turning. Mechanical lock up.
I Couldn't leave it with anyone because they could steal all of my VITAL data.
What did I do...
I put it in a large freezer Ziplock bag and FROZE it over night!
Metal contracts when cooled.
I wrapped it in Paper towel to slow the Condinsation as it warmed up.
Right from the freezer as fast as you can, plug it in and see if it will spin.
Mine did! and I recovered ALL of my data without the danger of someone else seeing the content on the drive.
COOL!
