what this means is that the cash cows will now have another heavy load to carry. since the cash cows are the only thing at microsoft that makes money what he's saying is that if this doesn't produce they could actually milk them dry.
didn't he recently say that ms is going to spend as much as it needs to to succeed in search? i believe he said as much as 10 billion big ones if necessary.
that on top of all the money lost on xbox, zune, msn, search...WELL over 10 billion for the lot of them.
10 billions dollars will buy you a brand new cern large hadron collider. it will also buy you a functioning international space station (which is currently at the 9 billion mark).
gotta love those cash cows. now this is the free market and competition at it's best! simply ignore both of them and buy your way into it.
