I'm trying to record a snippet of audio from a streaming source. Ain't workin. I have a Realtek HD audio soundcard (came with the system), and when I go to adjust my volume properties, and go to Realtek Audio input, it's not giving me a "stereo mix" or "wave input" options to set volume for (only CD volume, front mic, mic input, and line, none of which is the correct for recording directly from an audio source on my computer, such as streaming audio). mabey try using a different program? I'm not sure which one is best for recording streaming audio from an outside source.. but try goldwave it does pretty much everything lol

thanks for replying AM, but here the thing; I've tried several different programs (Audacity, Cool Edit Pro) - they all allow me to choose my sound card as the input device, but it's my actual Windows Audio recording options I'm having trouble with. My one sound card doesn't seem to have an option to record "wave" or "stero mix", only line, CD, & mic. I tried using each of those settings, but when I play something on say, Windows Media Player, and try to record it live on one of my audio recording programs, it doesn't record. It seems like there's a simple solution to this but it's evading me :(

Isn't the realtek an integrated type sound device?? Unless you have a seperate sound card, you won't be able to record anything outside of the software parameters you see on your system. You'd need a sound card and software to enable you to record from any source, streaming, line inputs, microphone, or CD. Most will have an option for "WHAT YOU HEAR", meaning that you can record anything that comes out of the speakers. Good luck

Try using VLC media player. It has a useful stream recording option.

Yeah, I don't think it's the recording software - they all give me the choice of recording input (my onboard audio card is the Realtek one). And although I can record CD audio via that soundcard, or line, mic, etc.) is has no "what you hear" option; no "wave" or "stereo mix" choice - no way that I can figure out to record what I'm hearing through the speakers - any new thoughts? I had exactly the same problem as Joe, caused by the same soundcard. I tried lots of recorders (Audacity, Easy Hi-Q Recorder, AEVITA SaveFlash, and more...) but none worked, even though I could hear what I wanted to record playing through my speakers.The last thing I tried was called NCH SoundTap, and it seemed to hang during installation (I had to do a hard reboot) so I didn't expect it even to have installed correctly. I was absolutely astonished to find (a) it had installed fine and (b) it was able to record as .wav or .mp3 files the audio streams that none of the other applications had been able to.You can d/l a trial version of SoundTap here: http://www.nch.com.a...dtap/index.html The trial version interrupts the recording with a 'please register' voice-over but at least you'll know if the software works before deciding to pay. The full version works fine for me. The default file format is set to .wav, but you can easily change it to mp3 via the Preferences dialog.
