I fully agree with this: "Modifying the source code for an accounting application requires more technical knowledge than installing a packaged application."

I disagree completely. I agree that they require a different technology (skillset or knowledge). It depends on how complex a system. Our financial system has a AS/400 backend database and a windows Client and a web client front end. I'm a Software system administrator and an ex developer. Now i design systems and I have to design the specs for programmers that don't know accounting/payroll. Programmers know coding and it my job to desing specs so they don't have to know accounting.




Now if you talking about a desktop accounting application it will get installed basically the same as any other software package.
