My speed is a blazing 28.8 dialup, the only thing I can get up here.
It would only take me a week to download a full length movie.

I could get dish web but it costs a fortune up here and it a total ripoff.

I remember those days.

Yeh, I do to. I changed out the modem and went to 48.6 - 52.8 from about 26 - 28. Believe it or not, that is a big difference.

Bla bla bla, you wanna see "light" Coastie? Here's light for ya:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/2046087639.png

But now that I'm getting things put back together and just started driving for a company that literally pays me in a week what my last carrier paid me in a month, I'll have real internet service back soon. Here's the interesting thing about this connection: I'm renting a house up the street from my mom and dad, and 'borrowing' their internet service. I do this through a pair of oldskool Linksys WRT54Gs running a custom version of Tomato and 9dbi gain antennas. The WDS makes a jump of about 250 yards, up a slight hill through several trees and the exterior walls of each house. Even so, here's my ping results:

Here's a bit heftier upstream ;) Can't beat the ping though! I haven't seen it get this low before! This ping is what I saw on T1 lines at my old job.

Please please please, don't, Comcast is evil, they suck, and nowhere near as fast as Fiber. I'm going on the experiences with the Chattanooga comcast... so FiOS or 4G or hyperspeedDSL.

By all means, if fiber is available in your area at a decent price, go for it! If you go for Comcast, hope you don't have problems, and don't use auto-billing. (my dad tried it before - they didn't auto-bill him like they were supposed to, and then they tried to charge a late fee and threatened to cut off our service until he yelled at them again) That said, I much prefer my current comcast connection to my old ATT DSL one (1.5mbps down/384kbps up) - those are the only options around here.

We have a choice between Comcast and FiOS and I have FiOS, I wouldn't even look at Comcast.

I wish FiOS was available here in the sticks of Northern IL. I have no choice but slow-as-molasses Frontier DSL or much-faster-but-still-not-great Comcast.

The biggest problem with FiOS is that it has very limited availability (i.e. available in rather limited locations).

I agree. Around here, it's slow ATT DSL (768kbps down/384kbps up), or nice fast Comcast internet (but then their support sucks).

The biggest problem with FiOS is that it has very limited availability (i.e. available in rather limited locations).

It's not that limited and they are still building the network. There are some areas in the City that may not have the availabilty of FiOS such as the public housing areas, but they do have access to Comcast. The biggest lack of anything is in the rural areas. One Rural County and town, built their won Fiber system then contracted to tie into the FiOS main trunkline for the service. Didn't cost Verizon anything to build the system and they got the customers in a rural area.
