Just did a new one today, and here's the result.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/800501091.png

I seem to always get slightly better results from the Asheville server, even though it's much further away and the ping is fairly high. Here's my results from Chicago just a few minutes later.

Mohammad- Welcome to the PCWorld Forums! Nice 7 Gbps connection! Seriously though, I hope your infrastructure over there gets upgraded soon. It's really hard to play online games with a 905ms ping! Still, your speed is a little faster than the dial-up we had to deal with for years....

Attached File  photo.jpg (41.07K)
Number of downloads: 16

i grabbed my at&t 3G card for my mac and i got

183ms ping

.50 up

for some strange reason, both speedtests thought i was in Wichita, KS (i'm in TN)

That is because of how cellular data is handled. The data goes from your phone to a cell tower which pipes everything to a central switch (aka MSC). The MSC then pipes everything off to central data servers, for EG. Alltel piped everything off to Little Rock.

Hey Mohamed, welcome to the forum. I've had a lot worse on a dial up connection. It was something like 50 kbps down. Don't even know what the upstream read was. As Snyper said, hopefully they'll upgrade the infrastruture. With the Embassies in Cairo and Consulates elsewhere such as Alexandria, I am sure there is Speedy internet available in some places.

And your iPhone would still be really slow with a WiFi connection. For the iPhone & iPod Touch using a WiFi connection, the limitation is the hardware for the iPhone/iPod Touch. Best I was ever able to get on my iPod Touch was about 8 Mbps download. Recently, best has been about 3 Mbps download.

Ran a check last night on the emachines for kicks and almost fell out the chair. I have 20 mbps down and 5 mbps up service, so was shocked when it zoomed past 25 mbps. I just ran it again on this Gateway: http://www.speedtest.net/result/907789144.png I don't know where this speed is coming from as it is above what my service is for the donwload.

feel free to comment with a speedtest.net report with your internet connection

random question, who's your internet provider?

for me, its a local carrier (telco/power company) and i've got fiber at 15mbps down and 15mbps up

**sigh** I've got AT&T DSL, 1.5mbps up, 384kbps down. It's quite slow for online multiplayer games and downloading files but antiquate for browsing website. That's the fastest AT&T DSL avalible where I am, and my experience with Comcast hasn't been good (they've got faster cable internet in my area).

Yeah, DSL does tend to get squeezed. I couldn't get it here and rather than let Comcast sqeeze me, I stayed with Dial up, although had considered Satellite as I had DirecTV. Verizon finally came through with FiOS in Late '06 and I jumped on it. Had 15/2 service and after two years, they raised it to 20/5 and never said a word and the bill didn't change, so didn't know until I happened to run a speed test. Now I seem to be getting some extra speed downstream for some reason.

Hi, That test site that you linked to, gives away a lot of information as to location. It appears to have included your address. This is not a good idea and you should check the information that is being given before posting. For that reason, I have edited it out, although it is perfectly Ok if you want to include the link with that information in there. If you want to run a speedtest, I would suggest doing so here: www.speedtest.net .

I think I need to retest mine tonight, and post the new numbers... that fios has been running 40Mbit down and 35 or so up.

Boy has it been nice.

Hmmm, Usually run it to Atlanta, but they don't have a server there anymore for some reason.

Fiber is freedom! I love it! I've gone from webpage starting to load within 3 seconds, to an image heavy webpage loaded within 3 seconds.

@ waldojim, you may just have something faster than me... I'm paying for 30/30 up/down, but finding a speedtest server that can handle my internet speed is hard now. In real world download tests, my DL speed is 4MB per second when downloading ubuntu linux.

This was my best tested speed tonight, and that was to Ontario Canada.
