I bought two monochrome Samsung printers (ML-1710 and ML-1740) in 2004 and 2005 respectively. The printers work great, but I now have two defective replacement toner cartridges. Both of them printed about 200-300 pages without problem, then starting putting vertical streaks on the pages. The cartridges are advertised to print about 5,000 pages each. The self-help advice from Samsung for this symptom is to "replace the toner cartridge", but at $80 each, this is not reasonable. I phoned Samsung support and spoke to two people, both of whom were uncaring and unhelpful. They said that, because the printers themselves are out of warranty, they don't cover the replacement cartridges. This clearly makes no sense. I expect Samsung to stand behind the quality of their toner cartridges, regardless of the age of the printer they are being used with. At this point, I am very unhappy with Samsung's quality control and poor customer service attitude.
