Is there a way to get have an email account that is closed, recieved by another email service that is a different domain. As an example, you use to have an email account with say Juno, but now it is closed. Now you have email with say Yahoo. Is there a way to get your new email domain to catch email going across the web to an old address / domain and have it go to the new address before it goes into the botomless pit that was your old email address.
It seems that your old email adddress still goes to the old company / domain and then no where, after you leave that company. But I wish that like the post office you could leave a forwarding address after the old account is closed so that anything sent to your old address would come to your new address.
Or do you have to keep that old address forever, just in case someone might send something to you at your old email address.
I know how to get my new address to POP3 and get the mail from my old address, but the old address will soon be closed, and I don't want to miss any important mail they may be sent to it.

Greetings! Welcome to the PCWorld forums!

The short answer to portion of your question above is basically yes.

When you close an email account, you lose all access to it. You will not get any messages send to that email address forwarded to any other email address. If you want to forward email from that email address, then you need to keep that account open and use a forwarding function for that email account assuming it has one.

I have Comcast for my ISP. I am in the process of "retiring" the Comcast email address that I use for "junk stuff" (i.e. the email address I give to websites and such) to another email account that is an IMAP account. I currently have the Comcast address set to forward to the new address. I will then slowly change those various websites to the new address and they will stop sending to the Comcast address. When the Comcast address is getting just spam messages, then I will basically know that all (or at least pretty much all) things are going to the new email address and I will be able to kill the Comcast address if I want.
