Outside it's large acquisitions in Advertising - it's core market - Google generally buys only other developer-centric companies. While Salesforce may seem like such a thing, any Apex/Visualforce dev will tell you about how often they bang their heads against the long list of platform limitations. The places where it's good, it's great, and it really does speed up application design. Nobody, however, wants a bastardized version of Java. The companies Google usually drools over have - like them - been started by the developer's themselves, and therefore have no choice but to be a developer-centric organization. Salesforce is making decent enough moves to correct this, but will probably always be a Sales-centric organization.
