While I was away, someone else used my desktop (HP Pavillion 742n) and thought they were helping me by cleaning up my registry with Easy Clean by Toni Arts. Well, now I can't load Explorer and do not and never had an XP installation disk. OK, I stupidly did not make a back up boot disk. When I go to the Task Manager, programs are running but no explorer. When I boot up I get the message: Unable to locate component. iertutil.dll not found. Try reinstalling application. I did put in a cd with Office 2003 pro and I couldn't even access it. Thank goodness I just purchased a laptop so I still have access to e-mail, etc. So what's next??Thanks for any help :unsureNJ

Would like to download the missing dll file except I can't even get to any program much less the internet. All my desk top icons are hidden and the only thing on the desktop is wallpaper. When I put in a cd I can not even access it. What a mess. At least I've learned 2 good lessons the hard way: never let friends without pc experience 'help' AND always always back up tho in this case I don't think that would help since the cd drive is inaccessible and is useless at this point.Any more ideas? Thanks

Without explorer, you're pretty screwed. To be honest. Even if you got the DLL, it would have to be from a flash drive, and put it in the folder. Then you'd still have the explorer problem.Did the store you got it from (I'm guessing you got it from a retailer) give you a recovery disc, at least? Or were no CDs given to you for this kind of thing? If you weren't given anything, and you're on a budget, you might as well just try a LiveCD from a Linux vendor (not trying to promote anything, but having a Linux OS that you don't have to install, so you can still do some tasks, it's worth mentioning at least), they hardly cost anything.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I wound up calling IE7 support. After being on hold for 30+ mins. I spoke to a tech. After about an hour...voila...the problem was fixed. Thank gawd I had Firefox installed to get on line. At least I'm back to "normal".
