Best Places To Shop For Tech Products, Cameras Ethial question about specialty store usage

I just read a PC World Online article about the best places to shop for technical products like cameras. It concluded that purchasing online was better for prices and availability and said the best place to start was Amazon.com. But first, the article advised that a shopper should visit a local specialty store that has the camera in stock, because the staff is more knowledgeable and you can handle the camera there and thus make an informed decision on what you want before you buy online.

It just seems unfair to me to take up a local seller's time and expertise if I don't intend to buy there. Any feedback from others about this issue would be appreciated.

This still leaves a shopper without a chance to try the product out before buying. With a big-ticket item like a camera, that's a problem. Especially if there's a restocking fee. I checked out Adorama.com's return policy and also BH Camera, and they both say you can order the camera and try it out and return it with no charge as long as you return it to them within a week. Has anyone tried online sellers this way? This seems more ethical.
