I am new to computers only having started on the one I have about 6-8 months ago, I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop with a Vista Home Premium system on a 64-bit platform. I read about FixWin in PCWorld and decided I would use it to check my computer because I was having problems with the computer screen locking up particularly when I used Last Pass. I would get a message saying that IE was not responding, the screen would go milky white and then I would get a pop up from Microsoft that it was checking for the problem it would fix it and it would be fine after that. But it was a consistent problem so I thought I would try to use FixWin to see if it could do anything about the problem, I downloaded it the other day and instead of the program going into all programs on the start menu it went into a file, when I tried to access the file I couldn't, I tried various ways to get in including dble clking it but I couldn't get in. I also tried again and it went into a different file with the same results, I thought that this wasn't a downloadable program but a program that I would allow it to access my computer and it would analyze the computer and report/fix whatever the problem is, is that right? The address I used was find.pcworld.com/64320 I just punched it into the search box and clkd search and it brought me right to the site, I didn't go through PC World's site to get to FixWin. I'm sure I can find the information to delete this from my file but any thing you could suggest as to how to do that would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey Undone !!

OK, I just downloaded from The Windows Club : http://www.thewindow...-fixwin-utility .
It will extract to a folder because it doesn't install. It's an .exe . All you have to do is open the folder on your desktop (most likely) and
Right click on the FixWin.exe to choose "Run as Administrator". You will get a prompt from UAC , click on Allow. The program will start.
Now, choose what you want to have the program fix.

You will see on the Left hand side, numerous options. Click on one and from the Right side, click on whatever you want to fix. The program does
recommend that you RE-Start your PC after EVERY fix you apply.

It could be of help as it is a similar program to "Dial-a-Fix" for XP ONLY. They are a bunch of fixes that are written for Vista and 7. Probably some
of those fixes are simply to return to the Default of your programs.

Here are the screen shots from that site for the program :

Another tool you might want to consider giving a try is "Microsoft Fix It center". It's a Beta tool but,
might just give you satisfaction :

http://www.windowsva...e-download-now/

I will be trying it out sometime tomorrow.
