I have a Dell XPS computer that is five years old, but still under warranty.
The motherboard has failed. Dell says a replacement motherboard is not available. So they offered a compatible computer.
Dell offered an XPS Studio 8100. A good computer.
But one major problem. The XPS Studio 8100 has only two internal hard drives. And you cannot add more.
I have to have three internal hard drives in my computer. My older XPS has three hard drives.
I cannot run my software and my business with a computer that only has two internal hard drives. An external drive is not an option.
I have a Drobo hooked up with 4T of drives. Plus I use other external drives.
But I have to have three internal drives in the computer.
After going over this with Dell tech support, I was told I would get a XPS Studio 9000 model which would hold three internal drives. But they would need approval before shipping a XPS Studio 9000.
Dell than shipped me a Dell XPS Studio 8100 without informing me even though I told them I did not want or could use the 8100.
I call Dell and was told they would take care of the problem. Today Dell called back and refused to ship me an XPS Studio 9000. Dell said I would have to settle for the XPS Studio 8100 even though it was useless to me.
I have spent several hours on the phone with Dell. Talked to over 14 people now. And still no help.
Can you help me?
Jerry

three internal drives?? are you working with a Raid5 array?? how big do you need??
the WD 2tb drives are coming down in price on newegg...
the amount of data you possess is astounding, what kind of data are you working with??
check out ebay for dell motherboards...
You can tell the Better Business Bureau about it, and then tell them your whole story, then let the highest ranking dell rep know that you've notified the BBB about the bad deal
also, dig around for the dell customer quality assurance hotline, tell them your story and they might be able to shake your replacement dell loose
