I upgraded to IE7 a couple of weeks ago. It seems that the next time Windows notified me of upgrades that were available, it tried to install a new version of Virtual Machine. It downloads the file, but when it tries to install it, I get the following error message:"This setup will only upgrade over an existing version of the Microsoft VM"I'm not completely sure that it has to do with the IE7 upgrade, but I never received that error message before when running IE6, and I haven't installed any other software. Now, Windows upgrade keeps nagging me to install the upgrade.Has anyone run into this problem?

I have the same problem on one of two PCs. I too was attempting to install a recent Microsoft Update fix for VM vulnerability and received the same message. Prior to that, I attempted to install the new Comcast/McAfee 7 upgrade and ran into problems where it only installed on 1 of 4 Windows XP users. I spent considerable time trying to diagnose the bad install with a Level 2 McAfee technician without success. He concluded that it appeared my Windows VM Java was damaged and was causing the other users not to link up with the install. He also explained something about it impacting Active X, which I don't understand. As part of this issue, I attempted to upgrade current Java to Sun Java 5.0 version 10 from version 9. After completing the download and installation, I verified installation, only to get the message that the installation did NOT go through. I thought that this was also being caused by the VM problem as well, but don't know enough about it.I intend to call Microsoft after the holiday and see what they say. I found an article on the Microsoft site that referenced a similar type problem- not sure if it is the same issue or not. (see Article ID 219053 from June 14, 2006.)Good luck and keep us current, as will I.

{size:18px}[/size]:D Hi Alan : If you are going to have Sun Java's programming, as I have, then should COMPLETELY REMOVE Microsoft's VM ; there is a "Tutorial" on this at : www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial97.html .
