I just hooked a Sony Trinitron 200sf crt to an AMD 2.1 Gh machine. I set it to 1024 X 768 but there is a severe flicker. It's even worse if I go up or down with the resolution. I somehow updated the adapter driver and it seems a little better (not really sure what happened - it just grabbed something off the 'net). The only refresh rate option is 60 Hz. Anyone here know how I can tweak this to look decent. It's a nice monitor.

Btw, this is a Win XP Machine.
I ran across PC HelpSoft that has a downloadable Hardware Helper that scans for driver updates. It found 3 items that need updated drivers - but none of those include the monitor. It 'highly recommends' registering the download of Harware Helper before actually updating the drivers. This sounds kinda strange to me. Anyone familar with these guys, or can help with the monitor issue?
I've used this monitor with other machines with no problem.

The first thing you need to do is insure that the flicker is not being caused by external amgnetic fields. The desktop itself could be too close to the monitor or anyother device mounted near the display.

Yeah, thanks.
The monitor's about 2 feet away - it's a tower on the floor. No fluorescent lights in sight.

Recently?
If you have not tried the monitor with another computer recently, then it could be the monitor dying/having "issues".
If you have used the monitor recently with another computer and it worked fine, then it is most likely an issue with the graphics card/system in this computer. Have you tried using this computer with another monitor to see if the same thing happens?
