2 totally separate things.
One is a peripheral, the other is a computer system.

This isn't even comparing apples to oranges. It's more like comparing the stem to the apple. Yes, mediocre pun intended. Still, this slideshow makes no sense.

with the functionality of the iPad I would be tempted to call it more of a peripheral than a computer system.

What an idiotic comparison. By the way, anybody ever heard of Wacom(?)/Commodore?

Shouldn't this be Newton vs. Ipad?

Or Graphics tablet vs. Magicpad?

Apple had the right idea, maybe if conditions had been differant, Apple could have had the iPAd on the market.
I don't have an idea on how well it would have sold, considering the technology available in 1979.

Actually, it would've made much more sense to compare the 1979 Apple Graphics Tablet and Stylus with either the Wacom Intuos Graphics Tablet and Stylus of today or Wacom Bamboo Graphics Tablet and Stylus of today.

There are only two major differences here... one, relatively minor - that being the sizing of the components to allow the iPad to be a MUCH SMALLER PACKAGE vs. the earlier computer/input device combo... this is combined with a little half-step in battery technology..... the second difference is a major one - the internet.... this is the only thing that makes such a device as the iPad even half interesting... or even mildly desirable. With these thoughts, one has a further question: Why did it take over 30 years of evolution to get from the basement to the first floor?

CPT HADDOCK
In 1983 I've devellop a soft to write chinese Characters on such tablet, No comparison is possible with the Ipad. And I can't compare a touch screen with touch pad and stylus. Touch pad and stylus are used to day to design and draw on the screen with large screen and are connected via USB.
This artcle is a non sense.

Apple wanted a product like the Ipad all along. The Graphics Tablet was there first design product to market. As technology has gotten better so they were finally able to make the Ipad happen.

And yes I have heard of the commodor, I use to work on it. I have owned a Texas Instruments TI994a computer, I have worked on Wang computers.

Apples first computer was called the Lisa computer, I think this person is just showing the comparison of technology coming into its own light, sort of like the Model T way back when and now a Dodge Shelby now days.

You have to start somewhere and sadly Americans are falling behind in a lot of areas and Hong Kong, China, Tiwane, Japan, India are kicking are asses latly in technology and industry. Unless the USA gets it's act together and get our children educated and get people off of welfare, we will start becomming a 3rd world nation. The USA ranks 13th on the planet in regards to education.

And it only took Apple 31 years to bring this dream to reality! Whats next? A razor you can take in the shower?

Sent from my sexy Droid X (in the shower...listening to music...browsing the web)

iPad vs. Etch-a-Sketch... Both are portable and wireless. Both make use of motion-sensing technology. One has a color screen, the other, black and white. Both are fun toys made in China.
