My son walked across the floor, touched the TV, and it shorted out. Fixable?

I guess it would depend on what got fried. By touching the screen and having it get zapped, it is my guess, that it would involve the screen and no telling what else. A new TV may be in order, but that is just a guess on my part. I don't know if a warranty would cover it ( if it is still under warranty ).

UPDATE: one thought did just occured to me. Try unplugging it for a few hours and then plug it back in and see it that helps.

One day my cousin turned off his Sony XBR 929 TV and had static electricity discharge when he pushed the power button. After that time the remote would change the viewing input when he tried to turn it off and on. The buttons either would not work. Also, the TV would turn itself on periodically when it sat turned off for some time. But recently, the TV will not turn on with either the buttons or remote. Ideas!

Static electricity can be very hazardous, even from outside the case. Potentials can reach up to 500,000 volts. They can draw some rather long arcs too. Vinyl soled slippers across a shag carpet will seem fun at first but pets and children know when to flee. These occurances can zap critical parts and either disable some functions or the entire process core. Some cures would be to use a conductive trace weaved into the carpet and ground to pick up any dangerous potentials before touching critical equipment.

What kind of TV was it and type, if it was one of the Samsung models you might get lucky and get under that lawsuit. Get a repair or new TV.

I wish we could all help more but we need a little more information.
