i found this old compaq pesario computer it has windows ME 156 ram with a AMD-K6 3D processor and a 6.4 gig harddrive. The pc is slow and I'm trying to see if it's worth it to try and rebuild it with better hardware. Is there anything i can install to make media play at normal speed,or just make the pc run faster.

With a computer that old, there really is nothing you can do to make it faster. Most video cards are PCI-E, and the AGP cards require Windows 2000 or XP. Older ram is hard to find, and new ram is available only in DDR and DDR2. You probably could install a larger hard drive, but with IDE, it's not worth it. The processor's socket is too outdated to find a fast processor that would fit in the same socket. Your case is probably not ATX standard and wouldn't fit a newer motherboard. My suggestion is to use that computer as is, or get a budget PC and upgrade it to the performance level you want. If you only want it to play multimedia, than an out of the box budget PC would suit you fine.
